In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of Yahweh was to Zechariah the son of Berekiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying:
Yahweh was angry with wrath over your fathers.
You shall say to them: Like this Yahweh of hosts said: Return to me, the utterance of Yahweh of hosts, and I will return to you, Yahweh of hosts said.
Do not be as your fathers, to whom the first prophets called, saying: Like this Yahweh of hosts said: Return from your evil ways and your evil deeds; but they did not hear and did not heed me, the utterance of Yahweh.
Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, will they live forever?
Only my words and my statutes, which I commanded my slaves the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? And they returned and said: As Yahweh of hosts schemed to make to us, as our ways and as our deeds, so he made in us.
On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, that is the month of Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of Yahweh was to Zechariah the son of Berekiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying:
I saw in the night, and behold, a man rode over a red horse, and he stood between the myrtles which were in the glen, and after him were horses red, sorrel, and white.
I said: What are these, my lord? And the messenger that speaks in me said to me: I will show you what they are.
And the man that stands between the myrtles answered and said: These are which Yahweh sent to go about in the land.
And they answered the messenger of Yahweh that stands between the myrtles and said: We went about in the land, and behold, all the land dwells and rests.
And the messenger of Yahweh answered and said: Yahweh of hosts, until when will you not have compassion on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, which you denounced these seventy years?
And Yahweh answered the messenger who was speaking with me, good words, words of comfort.
And the messenger that speaks in me said to me: Call, saying: Like this Yahweh of hosts said: I am envied for Jerusalem and for Zion with great jealousy.
And with great wrath I am angry over the arrogant nations, which when I was angry a little, they helped to the evil.
To the so, like this Yahweh said: I returned to Jerusalem with compassions; my house will be built in it, the utterance of Yahweh of hosts, and a line will be stretched out over Jerusalem.
Again call, saying: Like this Yahweh of hosts said: Again my cities will scatter from good, and Yahweh will comfort Zion again, and choose Jerusalem again.
I lifted up my eyes, and I saw, and behold, four horns.
And I said to the messenger that speaks in me: What are these? And he said to me: These are the horns which scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.
And Yahweh showed me four engravers.
And I said: What come these to make? And he said, saying: These are the horns which scattered Judah, as the mouth of a man not lifted up his head; and these came to shudder them, to praise the horns of the nations, those who lift up a horn to the land of Judah to scatter it.
