Ruth2

Now Naomi had a relative of her husband's, a powerful man of substance from the clan of Elimelech, and his name was Boaz.

Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, Please let me go to the field and glean among the ears of grain behind anyone in whose eyes I may find favor. She said to her, Go, my daughter.

She went, came in, and gleaned in the field behind the harvesters. And by chance she happened upon the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech.

Boaz came from Beth-lechem and said to the harvesters, Yahweh with you. They said to him, May Yahweh bless you.

Boaz said to his servant who was stationed over the harvesters, Whose young woman is this?

The boy that stations over those who harvest answered, She is a young woman, a Moabite, who returned with Naomi from the field of Moab.

She said, Please let me glean and gather among the sheaves behind the harvesters. So she came and has been standing from morning until now; she has sat in the house only a little.

Boaz said to Ruth, Listen, my daughter: do not go to glean in another field, and do not pass on from this one either; keep close here with my young women.

Keep your eyes on the field that they are harvesting, and go after them. Have I not commanded the young men not to touch you? When you are thirsty, go to the vessels and drink from what the young men draw.

She fell on her face and bowed down to the land, and she said to him, Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should regard me, when I am a foreigner?

Boaz answered her, I have been told in full all that you have done for your mother-in-law after the death of your husband: how you left your father and your mother and the land of your birth, and came to a people that you had not known before.

May Yahweh repay your work, and may your wages be complete from Yahweh the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to seek refuge.

She said, Let me find favor in your eyes, my lord, for you comforted me and you spoke over the heart of your female slave, and I not will be as one of your female slaves.

Boaz said to her at mealtime, Come here and eat some of the food, and dip your morsel in the vinegar. So she sat beside the harvesters, and he held out roasted grain to her; she ate and was satisfied, and had some left over.

She rose to glean, and Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not put her to shame.

Also be sure to strip some out of the bundles for her and leave them for her to glean, and do not rebuke her.

So she gleaned in the field until evening, and she beat out what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley.

She lifted it up and went into the city, and her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned. Then she brought out and gave her what she had left over once she was satisfied.

Her mother-in-law said to her, Where did you glean today, and where did you do it? Blessed be the one who took notice of you! So she told her mother-in-law with whom she had dealt, and said, The name of the man I dealt with today is Boaz.

Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, Blessed be he by Yahweh, who has not forsaken his loyal love toward the living and the dead. Naomi also said to her, The man is closely related to us; he is one of our redeemers.

Ruth the Moabite said, Moreover, he said to me, You must keep close to my young men until they have finished all my harvest.

Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his maids, so that no one will fall upon you in another field.

So she kept close to the maids of Boaz to glean until the barley harvest and the wheat harvest were finished; and she lived with her mother-in-law.
