Psalms88

A song, a psalm, of the children of Korah, to the choirmaster, over Machalath, to answer; a poem of Heman the Ezrachite.

Yahweh, God of my deliverance, by day I cried out, in the night before you.

Let my prayer come before your face; incline your ear to my ringing cry.

For my being is sated with evils, and my life has reached Sheol.

I am reckoned with those who go down to the pit; I have become like a man with no strength.

Free among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more, and they are cut off from your hand.

You have set me in a pit of the lowest places, in dark places, in the depths.

Your anger has rested on me, and you have afflicted me with all your breakers. Selah.

You have put my acquaintances far from me; you have made me an abomination to them; I am shut up and cannot go out.

My eye is faint from affliction; Yahweh, I call out to you every day; I spread out my palms to you.

Will you make a wonder for the dead? Or will the shades rise, will they give thanks to you? Selah

Will your loyal love be recounted in the sepulchre, your steadiness in Abaddon?

Will your wonder be known in the darkness, and your righteousness in the land of oblivion?

But I cried aloud to you, Yahweh, and in the morning my prayer comes to meet you.

Why, Yahweh, do you reject my being, hide your face from me?

I am poor and breathing my last from my youth; I have borne your dread; I am perplexed.

Your anger passed over me; your terrors have destroyed me.

They surrounded me like water all the day; they encircled me together.

You have removed far from me the one who loves and the friend; my acquaintances are darkness.
