To the choirmaster, with stringed instruments. A psalm of Asaph, a song.
Known in Judah is God; in Israel his name is great.
And his lair was in Salem, and his den in Zion.
There he shattered the fire-bolts of the bow, the shield and the sword and the battle. Selah.
You are lit up, majestic, more than the mountains of prey.
The mighty of heart were plundered; they slumbered their sleep, and none of the men of strength could find their hands.
At your rebuke, God of Jacob, both chariot and horse sank into deep sleep.
You, you are to be feared; and who can stand before your face from the moment of your anger?
From the heavens you made hear the case; the land feared and she rested.
When God rose for justice, to save all the humble of the land. Selah.
For the rage of humankind will praise you; the remainder of their rages you will gird on.
Make vows and pay them to Yahweh your God; let all those around him bring a gift to the one revered.
He cuts off the breath of rulers; he is to be feared by the kings of the land.
