Psalms73

A psalm to Asaph.

Surely God is good to Israel, to those pure of heart.

And as for me, my feet had almost turned aside, my steps had all but been poured out.

For I was jealous of the boasters, seeing the wholeness of the wicked.

For there are no pangs at their death, and their body is plump.

They are not in the toil of man, and along with humankind they are not stricken.

Therefore pride is their necklace; violence wraps them as a garment.

Their eyes go out from fat; the imaginings of the heart pass beyond measure.

They mock and speak with evil, oppression; from a height they speak.

They destined their mouth in the heavens, and their language will go in the land.

Therefore his people return here, and waters of fullness are drained by them.

And they say, How does God know, and is there knowledge in the Most High?

Look, these are the wicked, and forever at ease, they increase wealth.

Surely in vain I have kept my heart clean, and I washed my palms in cleanness.

And I have been stricken all day, and my rebuke comes with each morning.

If I had said, I will recount it so, look, I would have dealt treacherously with the generation of your sons.

And I reckoned to know this; it was toil in my eyes,

until I went into the sanctuaries of God and discerned their end.

Surely you set them on slippery places; you make them fall into ruins.

How they have become a desolation in a moment! They come to an end, they are finished from terrors.

Like a dream after waking, O Lord, when you rouse yourself you will despise their image.

For my heart was soured, and my kidneys were pierced.

And I was stupid and did not know; I was like beasts with you.

And I am continually with you; you take hold of my right hand.

With your counsel you guide me, and afterward you will take me to weightiness.

Who is to me in the heavens? And with you I took delight not in the land.

My flesh and my heart have come to an end; God is the rock of my heart and my portion forever.

For look, those far from you perish; you put an end to everyone who acts as a harlot away from you.

But as for me, the nearness of God is good for me; I have set my refuge in the Adonai Yahweh, to recount all your works.
