Psalms69

To the choirmaster, over lilies, of David.

Save me, God, for the waters have come in up to my being.

I have sunk in the mire of the deep, and there is no foothold; I have come into the depths of the water, and the stream has overflowed me.

I am weary with my calling out; my throat is parched; my eyes have failed, waiting for my God.

Those who hate me without cause are more than the hairs of my head; those who would destroy me, my enemies of falsehood, are mighty; what I did not seize, I must then give back.

God, you know my folly, and my guilt is not hidden from you.

Let not those who wait for you be ashamed because of me, Adonai Yahweh of hosts; let not those who seek you be humiliated because of me, God of Israel.

For on your account I have borne reproach; disgrace has covered my face.

I have become estranged from my brothers, and a foreigner to the children of my mother.

For zeal for your house has eaten me up, and the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.

I wept with the fasting of my being, and it became reproaches to me.

I set sackcloth as my clothing, and I became a proverb to them.

Those who sit in the gate speak of me, and I am the music of those who drink strong drink.

As for me, my prayer is to you, Yahweh, at a time of favor; God, in the greatness of your loyal love, answer me, in the faithfulness of your rescue.

Deliver me from the mud, and let me not sink; let me be delivered from those who hate me, and from the depths of the waters.

Let not the stream of waters overflow me, nor the deep swallow me down, nor the pit shut its mouth over me.

Answer me, Yahweh, for your loyal love is good; according to the greatness of your compassion, turn to me.

And do not hide your face from your slave, for I am in distress; hurry, answer me.

Draw near to my being and redeem it; for the sake of my enemies, ransom me.

You know my reproach and my shame and my disgrace; all my opposers are before you.

Reproach has broken my heart, and I am sick; I waited for someone to show grief, and there was none, and for comforters, but I found none.

They put poison in my food, and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

May their table before them become a trap, and their wholeness a snare.

May their eyes grow dark from seeing, and make their loins shake continually.

Pour out your indignation on them, and let the burning of your anger overtake them.

Let their encampment be made desolate; in their tents, let no one dwell.

For they chase the one you struck, and they recount the pain of your slain.

Set guilt upon their guilt, and let them not come into your righteousness.

Let them be wiped out of the scroll of life, and with the righteous let them not be written.

And I am poor and in pain; may your deliverance, God, set me on high.

I will praise the name of God in song, and I will make it great in thanksgiving.

And it will be pleasing to Yahweh, more than an ox, a young bull with horns and split hooves.

The humble have seen and they will rejoice; you who seek God, may your heart live.

For Yahweh listens to the needy, and he does not despise his prisoners.

Skies and land will praise him, the seas, and all that creeps in them.

For God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah; they will dwell there and take possession of it.

And the seed of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell in it.
