For the choirmaster, set to 'The Dove of Silence of Distant Places.' Of David, an inscription, when the Philistines seized him in Gath.
Show favor to me, God, for a man has trampled me; all day long a fighter oppresses me.
My enemies trampled me all day, for many fight against me, O Height.
In the day I fear, I trust in you.
In God I praise his word; in God I trust, I will not fear; what can flesh do to me?
All day long they vex my words; all their thoughts are against me, for evil.
They gather to quarrel, they lie hidden; they themselves watch my heels, just as they have waited for my being.
On account of iniquity there is no escape for them; in anger, come, God, and bring down the peoples.
You have counted my wandering; put my tears in your skin-bottle; are they not in your scroll?
Then my enemies will turn backward on the day I call out; this I know, that God is for me.
In God I praise the word; in Yahweh I praise the word.
In God I trust, I will not fear; what can man do to me?
Your vows are upon me, O God; I will pay thanksgivings to you.
For you have delivered my being from death; have you not delivered my feet from stumbling, to go about before the face of God in the light of life.
