Psalms51

For the director, a psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came to him, when he had gone in to Bath-Sheba.

Show me favor, God, according to your loyal love; according to the greatness of your compassion, wipe out my transgressions.

Wash me abundantly from my guilt, and cleanse me from my sin.

For I know my transgressions, and my sin is before me continually.

Against you, you alone, I have sinned, and what is evil in your eyes I have done, so that you are righteous when you speak, you are clear when you judge.

Behold, I was brought forth in guilt, and in sin my mother conceived me.

Behold, you desire faithfulness in the inward parts, and in the secret place you make me know wisdom.

Cleanse me from sin with hyssop, and I will be pure; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

Make me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you crushed rejoice.

Hide your face from my sins, and wipe out all my iniquities.

Create for me a clean heart, O God, and renew a firm breath within me.

Do not cast me out from your presence, and do not take the breath of your holiness from me.

Return to me the joy of your salvation, and let a willing breath sustain me.

I will teach rebels your ways, and sinners will return to you.

Deliver me from bloodshed, O God, the God of my deliverance; my tongue will sing aloud for joy of your righteousness.

O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.

For you do not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; a burnt offering you do not accept.

The sacrifices of God are a breath of brokenness; a broken and crushed heart, O God, you do not despise.

In your good pleasure, do good to Zion; build the walls of Jerusalem.

Then you will delight in sacrifices of righteousness, in burnt offering and whole offering; then they will bring up bulls on your altar.
