Psalms50

A psalm of Asaph.

The Mighty God, Yahweh, has spoken and summoned the land from the rising of the sun to its setting.

From Zion, the perfection of splendor, God has shone out.

Our God comes and does not keep silent; fire eats before him, and around him it is tempestuous exceedingly.

He calls to the skies from above, and to the land, to judge his people:

Gather to me my faithful ones, those who cut my covenant over a sacrifice.

The skies told his righteousness, for God himself is judge. Selah.

Hear, my people, and I will speak; Israel, and I will testify against you: God, your God, am I.

Not over your sacrifices do I reprove you, nor your burnt offerings, which are before me continually.

I will not take a young bull from your house, nor goats from your folds.

For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills.

I know every bird of the mountains, and what moves in the field is with me.

If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that fills it.

Do I eat the flesh of mighty bulls, and drink the blood of goats?

Sacrifice thanksgiving to God, and pay your vows to the Most High,

And call out to me in a day of distress; I will rescue you, and you will honor me.

And to the wicked, God said: What is it to you to recount my decrees, that you take up my covenant on your mouth?

You hated discipline, and threw my words behind you.

When you saw a thief, you were pleased with him, and your portion is with adulterers.

You let your mouth loose for evil, and your tongue yokes deceit.

You sit and speak against your brother; you put a fault on the child of your mother.

These things you did, and I kept silent; you imagined that I am just like you. I will rebuke you, and lay the case out in order before your eyes.

Consider this, please, you who forget God, lest I tear you to pieces and there be no one to rescue.

One who sacrifices thanksgiving honors me, and to one who sets his way I will show the salvation of God.
