To the choirmaster, to Jeduthun, a psalm of David.
I said, I will guard my ways from sinning with my tongue; I will keep a muzzle on my mouth while still the wicked is before me.
I was dumb in silence; I hushed, even from good, and my pain was stirred up.
My heart grew hot within me; in my musing a fire burned; I spoke with my tongue.
Yahweh, make me know my end and the measure of my days, what it is; let me know how I am ceasing.
Look, you have made my days handbreadths, and my lifespan is like nothing before you; surely all is vapor, every human standing firm. Selah.
Surely a person goes about as an image; surely they are in commotion for vapor; he heaps up and does not know who will gather them.
And now, what have I waited for, O Lord? My hope is for you.
Deliver me from all my transgressions; do not make me the reproach of the foolish.
I am dumb; I will not open my mouth, for you have done it.
Remove your plague from me; from the infliction of your hand I am spent.
With rebukes over guilt you have disciplined a person, and like a moth you have melted what he desires; surely every human is only vapor. Selah.
Hear my prayer, Yahweh, and my cry for help give ear to my tears; do not keep silent, for I am a sojourner with you, a resident alien like all my fathers.
Look away from me, that I may smile, before I go and am no more.
