Psalms31

To the choirmaster. A psalm of David.

In you, Yahweh, I have taken refuge; let me not be ashamed forever; in your righteousness, deliver me.

Stretch out your ear to me, quickly snatch me away; be for me a rock of stronghold, a house of strongholds, to save me.

For you are my crag and my stronghold, and for the sake of your name you guide me and lead me on.

You will bring me out of the net that they have hidden for me, for you are my stronghold.

Into your hand I entrust my breath; you have redeemed me, Yahweh, God of stability.

I hate those who keep the vapors of emptiness; and I trust in Yahweh.

I will rejoice and be glad in your loyal love, because you saw my affliction, you knew the distress of my being.

And you did not shut me up in the hand of an enemy; you set my feet in a roomy place.

Show favor to me, Yahweh, for I am in straits; my eye, my being, and my belly have wasted away with vexation.

For my life is spent in sorrow, and my years in groaning; my strength stumbles in my guilt, and my bones waste away.

Because of all my opposers I have become a reproach, and to my neighbors exceedingly, and a fear to those who know me; those who see me outside flee from me.

I am forgotten like a dead person, out of mind; I have become like a vessel that is destroyed.

For I have heard the slander of many, terror from all around, when they sat in council together against me; they plotted to take my being.

But I trust in you, Yahweh; I said, 'You are my God.'

My times are in your hand; snatch me away from the hand of my enemies and from those who pursue me.

Make your face shine over your slave; save me in your loyal love.

Yahweh, let me not be ashamed, for I called out to you; let the wicked be ashamed, let them go silent into Sheol.

Let the lips of falsehood be struck dumb, those that speak arrogant things against the righteous, in pride and contempt.

How great is your goodness, which you hid away for those who fear you, which you made for those who take refuge in you, before the children of man.

You conceal them in the secret place of your face from the schemes of man; you hide them in a shelter from the strife of tongues.

Blessed be Yahweh, for he has wondrously shown his loyal love to me in a city under siege.

And I said in my panic, I am cut off from before your eyes; yet you heard the sound of my pleas when I cried aloud to you.

Love Yahweh, all his faithful; Yahweh keeps the trusty, and repays to excess the one who acts with pride.

Be strong, and let your heart be bold, all you who wait for Yahweh.
