Psalms22

To the choirmaster, over the doe of the dawn. A psalm of David.

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me, so far from my deliverance, from the words of my roaring?

My God, I call out by day, and you do not answer, and by night, and there is no silence for me.

And you are holy, dwelling in the praises of Israel.

In you our fathers trusted; they trusted, and you delivered them.

To you they cried out and escaped; in you they trusted and were not ashamed.

And I am a worm and not a man, a reproach of humankind and despised by the people.

All who see me mock me; they part the lip, they shake the head.

Roll it to Yahweh; let him deliver him, let him rescue him, for he delights in him.

For you burst me forth from the womb, making me trust upon the breasts of my mother.

Upon you I was cast from the womb; from the belly of my mother you are my God.

Do not be far from me, for distress is near, for there is no helper.

Many bulls have gone around me; the mighty ones of Bashan have encircled me.

They have opened their mouth against me, a lion tearing and roaring.

I am poured out like water, and all my bones have separated; my heart has become like wax, melted in the midst of my inward parts.

My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue is made to cling to my jaws; and into the dust of death you set me.

For dogs have surrounded me; a company of evildoers have encircled me; like a lion, they are at my hands and my feet.

I count all my bones; they look, they see me.

They divide my garments among themselves, and over my clothing they cast a lot.

And you, Yahweh, do not be far; my strength, hasten to my help.

Deliver my being from the sword, my only one from the hand of the dog.

Save me from the mouth of the lion, and from the horns of the wild bulls you have answered me.

I will recount your name to my brothers; in the middle of the company I will praise you.

You who fear Yahweh, praise him; all the seed of Jacob, honor him, and be afraid of him, all the seed of Israel.

For he has not despised and has not loathed the suffering of the poor, and has not hidden his face from him; and when he cried out to him, he heard.

From you comes my praise in the great company; my vows I will pay before those who fear him.

The humble will eat and be satisfied; they will praise Yahweh, those who seek him; may your heart live for ever.

All the ends of the land will remember and turn back to Yahweh, and all the families of the nations will bow down before your face.

For the kingship belongs to Yahweh, and he is ruling over the nations.

All the fat ones of the land have eaten and bowed down; before him will crouch all who go down to the dust, and his own being he has not kept alive.

Seed will serve him; it will be recounted concerning the Lord to the generation.

They will come and declare his righteousness to a people about to be born, that he has done it.
