A Prayer of David
Hear righteousness, Yahweh; give attention to my ringing cry; give ear to my prayer, from lips without deceit.
From your face let my justice go forth; let your eyes see what is level.
You have tested my heart, you have visited me by night, you have refined me; you find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not pass beyond.
As for the deeds of humankind, by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the paths of the violent one.
My steps have held firm in your tracks; my footsteps have not slipped.
I call out to you, for you will answer me, God; stretch out your ear to me, hear my utterance.
Set apart your loyal love, you who save those who take refuge from those who rise up, by your right hand.
Keep me like the pupil, the daughter of the eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings,
from the face of the wicked who devastated me, my enemies who encircle me with their being.
They have shut up their fat; their mouth speaks with pride.
Our steps—now they have surrounded us; they set their eyes to bend toward the land.
He is the likeness of a lion that yearns to tear apart, and of a young lion dwelling in hiding places.
Rise up, Yahweh, meet his face, make him bow down; deliver my being from the wicked by your sword,
from men, by your hand, Yahweh, from men of the world, whose portion is in life; and with what you have treasured you fill their belly; their sons are satisfied, and they leave what remains to their infants.
As for me, I will see your face in righteousness; I will be satisfied with your form when I wake.
