To the choirmaster. To David, a psalm.
Yahweh, you have searched me, and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise; you discern my thought from afar.
My traveling and my lying down you sift, and all my ways you are familiar with.
For there is not a word on my tongue, and behold, Yahweh, you know all of it.
Behind and before you hem me in, and you lay your palm on me.
Knowledge too wonderful for me; it is set on high, I am not able to reach it.
Where can I go from your breath, and where can I flee from your presence?
If I climb the skies, you are there; and if I spread a bed in Sheol, behold, you are there.
If I take up the wings of dawn, if I dwell at the end of the sea,
even there your hand leads me, and your right hand grasps me.
And I said, Surely darkness will crush me, and the night will be light about me.
Even darkness does not grow dark from you, and night shines like the day; as darkness, so light.
For you acquired my kidneys; you covered me in the womb of my mother.
I give thanks to you, for I have been made awesomely distinct; wonderful are your works, and my being knows it exceedingly well.
My bones were not hidden from you, when I was made in the secret place, formed in the lower parts of the land.
Your eyes saw my embryo, and in your scroll all of them were written: the days that were formed, and one among them was his.
And to me, how precious are your thoughts, God! How numerous are their sums!
If I count them, they are more numerous than sand; I awoke, and I am still with you.
If only you would slay the wicked, God! And men of bloodshed, depart from me.
Those who speak of you with scheming lift themselves up to vanity, your enemies.
Do I not hate those who hate you, Yahweh, and feel loathing at those who rise up against you?
With complete hatred I hate them; they have become enemies to me.
Search me, God, and know my heart; test me, and know my disquieting thoughts.
And see if a way of pain is in me, and lead me in the way of forever.
