By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat; also we wept as we remembered Zion.
On the willows in her midst we hung up our lyres.
For there our captors asked us for words of a song, and our tormentors for gladness: Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
How can we sing the song of Yahweh on foreign ground?
If I forget you, O Jerusalem, may my right hand forget.
May my tongue cleave to my palate if I do not remember you, if I do not lift up Jerusalem above the head of my gladness.
Remember, Yahweh, against the sons of Edom the day of Jerusalem, those who said, Lay it bare, lay it bare, down to the foundation within her.
Daughter of Babylon, you who are devastated, blessed is the one who repays you the dealing that you dealt to us.
Blessed is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the crag.
