To the choirmaster. Of David. A psalm.
O God of my praise, do not keep silent.
For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of deceit have opened wide against me; they have spoken with me in a tongue of falsehood.
And with words of hatred they have surrounded me, and they have fought against me for nothing.
In place of my love they accuse me, but I am prayer.
They set evil on me in place of good, and hatred in place of my love.
Appoint a wicked one over him, and let an adversary stand at his right hand.
When he is judged, let him go forth wicked, and let his prayer become sin.
Let his days be few; let another take his oversight.
Let his sons be fatherless and his wife a widow.
Let his sons go tottering about, and beg, and seek out of their ruins.
Let a creditor ensnare all that belongs to him, and let foreigners plunder his toil.
Let there be no one who prolongs loyal love to him, and let there be no one who shows favor to his fatherless children.
Let his latter end be cut off; in the generation after, let their name be wiped out.
Let the guilt of his fathers be remembered before Yahweh, and let the sin of his mother not be wiped out.
Let them be before Yahweh continually, and may he cut off their memorial from the land.
Because he did not remember to do loyal love, but ran after a poor and needy man and the discouraged of heart, to put him to death.
He loved a curse, and it came to him; he took no delight in blessing, and it was far from him.
He clothed himself with a curse as his garment, and it entered like waters into his inward parts, and like oil into his bones.
Let it be to him like a garment he wraps himself in, and like a belt he girds on continually.
This is the wage of my accusers from Yahweh, and of those who speak evil against my being.
But you, O Yahweh, O Lord, deal with me for the sake of your name; because your loyal love is good, deliver me.
For poor and needy am I, and my heart is pierced within me.
Like a shadow when it stretches out I am gone; I am shaken off like a locust.
My knees stumble from fasting, and my flesh has grown lean for want of oil.
And I have become a reproach to them; they see me, they shake their heads.
Help me, Yahweh my God; save me according to your loyal love.
And let them know that this is your hand; you, Yahweh, have done it.
Let them curse, but you will bless; they rose up and were ashamed, but your slave will rejoice.
Let my accusers be clothed with disgrace, and let them wrap themselves in their shame as in a robe.
I will give thanks to Yahweh exceedingly with my mouth, and in the midst of many I will praise him.
For he will stand at the right hand of the needy, to save him from those who judge his being.
