My son, if you have gone surety for your neighbor, you have struck your palms for a stranger,
you have been ensnared by the words of your mouth, you have been caught by the words of your mouth.
Do this, then, my son, and deliver yourself, for you have come into the palm of your neighbor: go, humble yourself, and importune your neighbors.
Do not give sleep to your eyes, or slumber to your eyelids.
Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hand, and like a bird from the hand of a fowler.
Go to the ant, sluggard; see her ways and become wise,
which has no commander, officer, or ruler,
she prepares her bread in the summer, she gathers her food at the harvest.
How long, sluggard, will you lie down? When will you rise from your sleep?
A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to lie down,
and your poverty will come like one who walks, and your need like a man with a shield.
A person of worthlessness, a man of wickedness, goes about with crookedness of mouth,
winking with his eyes, speaking with his feet, pointing with his fingers,
Perversities in his heart, devising evil, at every time he sends out strife.
Therefore his calamity will come suddenly; in a moment he will be broken, and there is no healing.
There are six things that Yahweh hates, and seven are the abomination of his being:
uplifted eyes, a tongue of falsehood, and hands that pour out innocent blood,
a heart that devises plans of wickedness, feet that hurry to run to evil,
a witness of falsehood who breathes out lies, and one who sends out strife between brothers.
Keep, my son, the commandment of your father, and do not forsake the instruction of your mother.
Bind them on your heart continually; fasten them upon your neck.
When you walk about, she will lead you; when you lie down, she will keep watch over you; and when you wake, she will talk with you.
For the commandment is a lamp, and instruction is light, and the rebukes of discipline are the way of life.
To keep you from an evil woman, from the flattery of a foreign woman's tongue.
Do not desire her beauty in your heart, and do not let her eyelids take you.
For on behalf of a prostitute woman it comes up to only a round loaf of bread, and the wife of a man hunts a precious being.
Can a man snatch up fire into his bosom and his garments not be burned?
Or can a man walk upon the embers, and his feet not be scorched?
So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished.
People do not despise a thief when he steals to fill his being, for he is hungry.
Yet when he is found, he will pay back sevenfold; he will give all the wealth of his house.
He who commits adultery with a woman lacks heart; one who ruins his being, he does it.
He will find a wound and dishonor, and his reproach will not be wiped out.
For jealousy is the rage of a man, and he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
He will not accept any ransom, and he will not consent, though you increase the bribe.
