Numbers3

And these are the account of the descendants of Aaron and Moses, on the day Yahweh spoke with Moses on the mountain of Sinai.

And these are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests, the anointed ones, whose hand he filled, to serve as priests.

And Nadab and Abihu died before the face of Yahweh when they brought near strange fire before the face of Yahweh in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no sons; and Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests before the face of Aaron their father.

Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying:

Bring near the tribe of Levi, and make it stand before the face of Aaron the priest, and they will serve him.

And they will keep his duty and the duty of the whole assembly before the face of the tent of meeting, to do the service of the dwelling-place.

And they will keep all the articles of the tent of meeting and the duty of the children of Israel, to do the service of the dwelling-place.

And you will give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons; they are wholly given to him from among the children of Israel.

And Aaron and his sons you will appoint, and they will keep their priesthood; and the stranger who comes near will be put to death.

Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying:

And I, look, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel in place of every firstborn, the first to open the womb from the children of Israel; and the Levites will be mine.

For every firstborn is mine; on the day I struck down every firstborn in the land of Egypt, I set apart for myself every firstborn in Israel, from human to livestock; they will be mine. I am Yahweh.

Yahweh spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying:

Muster the children of Levi by the house of their fathers, by their families; every male from a child of a month and up, you will muster them.

And Moses mustered them by the mouth of Yahweh, just as he had been commanded.

And these were the children of Levi by their names: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

And these are the names of the children of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shimei.

And the children of Kohath by their families: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.

And the children of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites by the house of their fathers.

To Gershon belonged the family of the Libnites and the family of the Shimeites; these are the families of the Gershonites.

Those mustered of them, by the number of every male from a child of a month and up, those mustered of them were seven thousand and five hundred.

The families of the Gershonites will encamp behind the dwelling-place, seaward.

And the chief of the father's house for the Gershonites was Eliasaph, son of Lael.

And the duty of the children of Gershon in the tent of meeting was the dwelling-place and the tent, its covering, and the screen of the entrance of the tent of meeting,

and the hangings of the court, and the screen of the entrance of the court that is by the dwelling-place and by the altar all around, and its ropes, for all its service.

And to Kohath belonged the family of the Amramites, and the family of the Izharites, and the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites; these are the families of the Kohathites.

By the number of every male, from a child of a month and up: eight thousand and six hundred, keepers of the duty of the holy place.

The families of the children of Kohath will encamp at the thigh of the dwelling-place, southward.

And the chief of the father's house for the families of the Kohathites was Elizaphan, son of Uzziel.

And their duty was the chest, and the table, and the lampstand, and the altars, and the articles of the holy place, with which they serve, and the screen, and all its service.

And the chief of the chiefs of the Levites was Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, with oversight of those keeping the duty of the holy place.

To Merari belonged the family of the Mahlites and the family of the Mushites; these are the families of the Merarites.

And those mustered of them, by the number of every male, from a child of a month and up, were six thousand and two hundred.

And the chief of the father's house for the families of the Merarites was Zuriel, son of Abihail; at the thigh of the dwelling-place they will encamp northward.

And the oversight of the duty of the children of Merari was the boards of the dwelling-place, and its bars, and its pillars, and its bases, and all its articles, and all its service,

and the pillars of the court round about, and their bases, and their stakes, and their ropes.

And those who encamp before the face of the tabernacle eastward, before the face of the tent of meeting toward the sunrise, were Moses and Aaron and his sons, keeping the duty of the sanctuary for the duty of the children of Israel; and the foreigner who comes near will be put to death.

All those mustered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron mustered at the mouth of Yahweh, by their families, every male from a month old and above, were twenty-two thousand.

And Yahweh said to Moses: Muster every firstborn male of the children of Israel from a month old and above, and take up the number of their names.

And you will take the Levites for me, I am Yahweh, in place of every firstborn among the children of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites in place of every firstborn among the livestock of the children of Israel.

And Moses mustered every firstborn among the children of Israel, as Yahweh had commanded him.

And all the firstborn males, by the number of names, from a month old and above, by those of them mustered, were twenty-two thousand two hundred seventy-three.

Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying:

Take the Levites in place of every firstborn among the children of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites in place of their livestock; and the Levites will belong to me. I am Yahweh.

And for the redemption of the two hundred seventy-three, those who exceed the Levites, from the firstborn of the children of Israel,

And you shall take five shekels apiece, per head; by the shekel of the holy place you shall take it; twenty gerahs to the shekel.

And you will give the silver to Aaron and to his sons, the redemption of those who exceed among them.

And Moses took the silver of the ransom from those who exceeded over the redemption of the Levites;

from the firstborn of the children of Israel he took the silver, one thousand three hundred sixty-five, in the shekel of the holy place.

And Moses gave the silver of the redemptions to Aaron and to his sons, at the mouth of Yahweh, as Yahweh had commanded Moses.
