Numbers13

Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

Send men for yourself, that they may scout the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel: one man, each for the tribe of his fathers, you shall send, every one a chief among them.

Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran, by the mouth of Yahweh. They were all men, heads of the children of Israel.

And these are their names: for the tribe of Reuben, Shammua son of Zaccur.

For the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat son of Hori.

For the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh.

For the tribe of Issachar, Igal son of Joseph.

For the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Nun.

For the tribe of Benjamin, Palti son of Raphu.

For the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel son of Sodi.

For the tribe of Joseph, for the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi son of Susi.

For the tribe of Dan, Ammiel son of Gemalli.

For the tribe of Asher, Sethur son of Michael.

For the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi son of Vopshi.

For the tribe of Gad, Geuel son of Maki.

These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to scout the land; and Moses called Hoshea, the son of Nun, Joshua.

Moses sent them to scout the land of Canaan, and said to them, Go up this way through the Negev, and go up into the hill country.

You will see the land: what it is, and the people that dwells on it, whether it is mighty or feeble, whether it is few or many.

And what is the land in which it dwells in it, whether it is good or bad; and what are the cities in which it dwells in them, whether in camps or in fortresses.

And what is the land: is it fat or lean? Is there in it a tree, or not? And strengthen yourselves and take some of the fruit of the land. Now the days were the days of the firstfruits of grapes.

They went up and scouted the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, at the coming in to Hamath.

They went up into the Negev, and he came as far as Hebron; and there were Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, those born of Anak. Now Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan of Egypt.

They came to the wadi of Eshcol, and cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they carried it on a pole between two, along with some of the pomegranates, and some of the figs.

That place was called Wadi Eshcol, because of the cluster that the children of Israel cut down from there.

They returned from scouting out the land at the end of forty days.

They went and came to Moses and to Aaron and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.

They recounted to him and said, We came into the land to which you sent us; and also it flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.

Except that the people that dwells in the land is fierce, and the cities are fortified, very great; and we also saw those born of Anak there.

Amalek dwells in the land of the Negev, and the Hittite and the Jebusite and the Amorite dwell in the hill country, and the Canaanite dwells by the sea and along the side of the Jordan.

Caleb hushed the people before Moses and said, We will surely go up and take possession of it, for we will surely be able against it.

And the men who had gone up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people, for it is stronger than we are.

They brought out a bad report of the land that they had scouted out, to the children of Israel, saying: The land that we passed through it to scout it is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people that we saw in the midst of it are men of size.

And there we saw the Nephilim, the children of Anak, from the Nephilim; and we were like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and so we were in their eyes.
