And from there, when he had risen up, He comes into the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan, and again crowds come together to Him, and as He had been accustomed, again He was teaching them.
And when the Pharisees had come to him, they were questioning Him if it is lawful for a husband to divorce a wife, testing Him.
And He answered and said to them, What did Moses command you?
And they said, Moses permitted to write a roll of divorce and to send her away.
And Jesus answered and said to them, Because of the hardness of your heart he wrote for you this commandment;
however from the beginning of creation God made them male and female;
on account of this a man will leave his father and the mother and will cling to his wife,
and the two will be for one flesh; therefore no longer are they two but one flesh.
Therefore what God has joined together, man should not separate.
And in the house again its disciples were questioning Him concerning the meaning of this.
And He says to them, Whoever shall divorce his wife and shall marry another, commits adultery against her.
And if she, when she had divorced her husband, shall marry another, she commits adultery.
And they were bringing to Him little children that He may touch them; but the disciples rebuked those bringing them.
Now when Jesus had seen, He was indignant, and He said to them, Permit the little children to come to Me, and hinder them not! for to the such belongs the kingdom of God.
Amen I say to you, whoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a child, certainly shall not enter into it.
And having embraced them, he was greatly blessing, having laid the hands on them.
And when He is going forth on the journey, when one had run up and had knelt down to Him, he was asking Him, Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
And Jesus said to him, Why do you call Me good? No one is good except one, God.
The commandments you know, You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, you shall not defraud, honor your father and the mother.
And answering, he was saying to Him, Teacher, all these I have kept from my youth.
And Jesus, when he had looked upon him, He loved him and He said to him, One thing is lacking to you; go, sell as much as you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me, having taken up the cross.
And when he had been sad at the word, he went away grieving; for he was one having many possessions.
And having looked around, Jesus says to his disciples, How difficultly those having the riches will enter into the kingdom of God!
And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus again, He answered and said to them, Children, how difficult it is for those who have trusted upon the riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of the needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
And exceedingly they were astonished, saying among themselves, Then who is able to be saved?
Now having looked on them, Jesus says, With men it is impossible, but not impossible with God; for all things are possible with God.
And Peter began to say to Him, Behold, we ourselves left all and have followed You.
Now answering, Jesus was saying, Amen I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or wife or children or lands on my account and because of the good news,
but he shall take a hundredfold now in this appointed-time — houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions — and in the age which is coming, eternal life.
However many will be first last, and the last first.
Then they were on the way going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was going on before them, and they were astonished; then those following were afraid. And when he had brought to Himself again the Twelve, He began to tell them the things being soon to happen to Him,
that, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes, and they will condemn Him to death and will deliver Him to the nations,
and they will mock Him and will spit upon Him and will flog Him and will kill him, and on the third day He will rise again.
And James and John, the two sons of Zebedee, come up to Him, saying to Him, Teacher, we desire that whatever if we shall ask you, you shall do for us.
And He said to them, What do you desire I may do for you?
And they said to Him, Grant to us that one at your right hand and one at your left hand we may sit in your glory.
And Jesus said to them, You know not what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup which I myself drink, or to be immersed with the immersion which I myself am immersed?
And they said to Him, We are able. And Jesus said to them, The cup indeed which I myself drink you will drink, and the immersion which I myself am immersed you will be immersed with;
but to sit at my right hand or at my left hand is not Mine to give, but to those for whom it has been prepared.
And having heard this, the ten began to be indignant about James and John.
And now having called them near, Jesus says to them, You know that those being accounted to rule over the nations exercise lordship over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.
However it is not thus among you; instead whoever shall desire to become great among you, will be your servant;
and whoever shall desire to become first among you, will be slave of all.
Even for the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
And they come to Jericho. And when He was going out from Jericho — and his disciples and a large crowd — the son of Timaeus, blind Bartimaeus, a beggar, was sitting beside the road.
And when it had heard that it is Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and to say, O Son of David, Jesus, have mercy on me.
And many were rebuking him, that he may be silent; but much more he was crying out, Son of David, have mercy on me.
And having stopped, Jesus commanded, Call him. And they call the blind man, saying to him, Take courage! Rise up, He calls you.
And when he had cast away his cloak, had jumped up, he came to Jesus.
And answering, Jesus said to him, What do you desire I may do for you? And the blind man said to Him, Rabboni, that I may receive sight.
And now Jesus said to him, Go, your trust has healed you. And immediately he received sight and he was following Him, Jesus, on the way.
