Woe to me! For I have become like the gatherings of summer fruit, like the gleanings of the grape harvest; there is no cluster to eat, no early fig that my being desires.
The pious person has perished from the land, and there is no upright one among humankind; all of them lie in wait for blood, each hunts his brother with a net.
Their palms are on evil, to do it well; the official asks, and the judge is for the bribe, and the great one speaks the desire of his being, he, and they weave it together.
Their best is like a briar, the upright one worse than a thorn hedge. The day of your watchmen, your punishment, has come; now their confusion will come about.
Do not believe in a neighbor; do not trust in a close friend; from her who lies in your bosom guard the doors of your mouth.
For a son treats a father as a fool, a daughter rises against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man's enemies are the people of his own household.
But I will watch for Yahweh, I will wait for the God of my rescue; my God will hear me.
Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; when I have fallen, I will rise; when I dwell in the darkness, Yahweh is a light for me.
I will bear the rage of Yahweh, for I have sinned against him, until he contends in my dispute and does me justice; he will bring me out to the light, I will look on his righteousness.
My enemy will see, and shame will cover her, she who says to me, "Where is Yahweh your God?" My eyes will look on her; now she will become a trampling place like the mud of the streets.
A day to build your walls: that day the boundary will be far away.
That day people will come to you, from Assyria and the cities of Egypt, and from Egypt to the River, and from sea to sea, and mountain to mountain.
And the land will become a desolation on account of her inhabitants, from the fruit of their deeds.
Shepherd your people with your rod, the flock of your inheritance, who live alone in a forest in the midst of garden-land; let them graze in Bashan and Gilead as in the days of forever.
As in the days of your going out from the land of Egypt, I will show him wonders.
Nations will see and be ashamed of all their might; they will lay a hand over the mouth, their ears will be deaf.
They will lick dust like the snake, like the crawlers of the land; they will quake out of their strongholds; they will come in dread to Yahweh our God, and they will be afraid of you.
Who is a God like you, taking away guilt and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not hold on to his anger forever, for he delights in loyal love.
He will return, he will have compassion on us; he will tread down our guilt, and you will throw all their sins into the depths of the sea.
You will give faithfulness to Jacob, loyal love to Abraham, which you swore to our fathers from the days of old.
