Matthew5

Then when he had seen the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he was sitting down, his disciples came to him.

And opening his mouth, he was teaching them, saying:

Blessed are the poor in the spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they themselves will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek, for they themselves will inherit the land.

Blessed are those hungering and thirsting for the righteousness, for they themselves will be filled.

Blessed are the merciful, for they themselves will receive mercy.

Blessed are the clean in heart, for they themselves will see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they themselves will be called sons of God.

Blessed are those persecuted on account of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.

Blessed are you when they may insult you and they may persecute you and they may say all kinds of evil word against you, lying, on my account.

Rejoice and exult, for your wage is great in the heavens; for thus they persecuted the prophets, those before you.

You yourselves are the salt of the land; however if the salt shall become tasteless, with what will it be salted? For it is useful for no thing any longer, except only for being cast out and to be trampled upon by the men.

You yourselves are the light of the world; a city lying on a hill is not able to be hidden;

nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but upon the lampstand, and it shines for all those in the house.

Thus should your light shine before the men, so that they may see your good works and they may glorify your Father who is in the heavens.

Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the Prophets; but I have come not to abolish, to fulfill.

For Amen I say to you, until the skies and the earth pass away, one iota or one stroke of a letter will certainly not pass away from the law, until everything happens.

Then whoever, if he shall break one of these the least of the commandments and shall teach the others so, he will be called least in the kingdom of the heavens; now whoever may keep and may teach them, this one will be called great in the kingdom of the heavens.

For I say to you that unless your the righteousness shall abound above that of the scribes and Pharisees, certainly you shall not enter into the kingdom of the heavens.

You have heard that it was said to the ancients, "You will not murder; now whoever may murder, will be liable to the judgment."

However I myself say to you that everyone who is being angry with his brother in vain will be liable to the judgment; now whoever may say to his brother, "Raca," will be liable to the Sanhedrin; now whoever may say, "Fool," will be liable to the Valley of Hinnom of fire.

Therefore if you shall offer your gift at the altar and there shall remember that your brother has something against you,

leave your gift there before the altar and go away; first be reconciled to your brother, and then, having come, offer your gift.

Be agreeing with your accuser quickly, while you are with him on the way, lest the accuser deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you will be cast into prison.

Amen I say to you, you will certainly not come out from there until you pay the last penny.

You have heard that it was said to the ancients: You will not commit adultery.

However I myself say to you that everyone who is looking upon a woman in order to lust after her already has committed adultery with her in his heart.

Now if your eye, the right, causes you to stumble, pluck it out and cast it from you; indeed it is better for you that one of your members may perish and not all your body may be cast into the Valley of Hinnom.

And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and cast it from you; indeed it is better for you that one of your members may perish and not all your body may depart into the Valley of Hinnom.

It was said also that: Whoever may divorce his wife, he should give to her a letter of divorce.

However I myself say to you that everyone who is divorcing his wife, except on account of sexual immorality, causes her to be adulterated; and whoever, if divorced, shall marry, commits adultery.

Again, you have heard that it was said to the ancients, "You will not swear falsely, now you will keep your oaths to the Lord."

However I myself say to you not to swear at all, neither swear by the heaven, because it is the throne of God,

nor swear by the land, because it is the footstool of his feet, nor swear by Jerusalem, because it is the city of the great King,

nor may you swear by your head, because you are not able to make one hair white or black.

However your statement should be Yes, yes, and No, no; however the excessive of these comes from the evil.

You have heard that it was said: Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.

However I myself say to you not to resist the evil person. Instead, whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him also the other;

and to the one who wills to sue you and to take your tunic, yield to him also the cloak;

and whoever will compel you to go one mile, go with him two.

To the one who asks you, give, and do not turn away from the one who desires to borrow from you.

You have heard that it was said: You will love your neighbour and will hate your enemy.

However I myself say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do well to those who hat you, and pray for those mistreating you and persecuting you,

so that you may be sons of your Father who is in the heavens, for he makes his sun rise on evil and good, and he sends rain on righteous and unrighteous.

For if you shall love those who love you, what wage have you? Surely also the tax collectors do the same?

And if you shall greet your brothers only, what excessive do you? Surely also the Gentiles do the same?

Therefore you yourselves will be perfect, how your Heavenly Father who is perfect.
