Matthew4

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the accuser.

And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward he was hungry.

And the one tempting him came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, speak, that these stones may become loaves of bread."

But he answered and said, "It has been written: Not by bread alone will the man live, but by every word coming out through the mouth of God."

Then the accuser takes him to the holy city and set him upon the pinnacle of the temple,

and says to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down; for it has been written that to his messengers he will give orders concerning you, and in their hands they will bear you up, otherwise you may strike your foot against a stone."

Jesus was saying to him, "Again it has been written: You will not test the Lord your God."

Again the accuser takes him to an exceedingly high mountain and shows to him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory,

and he says to him, "All these things will I give to you, if falling down you shall worship me."

Then Jesus says to him, "Go away behind me, the adversary; for it has been written: The Lord your God you will worship, and him alone will you serve."

Then the accuser leaves him, and behold, messengers came and they were ministering to him.

Now when he had heard that John was delivered up, Jesus withdrew into Galilee.

And when he had left Nazareth, he had come and dwelt at Capernaum, which is on the sea-side, in the region of Zebulun and of Naphtali,

that it may be fulfilled, that which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying:

Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the nations —

the nation, the one sitting in darkness, have seen a great light, and to those sitting in the land and in a shadow of death, a light has dawned on them.

From that time Jesus began to proclaim and to say, "Change your heart, for the kingdom of the heavens has drawn near."

Now walking beside the Sea of Galilee, Jesus saw two brothers, Simon, the one being named Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.

And he says to them, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men."

And immediately, when they had left the nets, they followed him.

And when he had gone on from there, he saw two others, brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.

And immediately, when they had left the boat and their father, they followed him.

And Jesus was going through all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.

And the news of him went out into all Syria; and they brought to him all the sick, having various diseases and oppressing by pains, and those being demonised and those being epileptic and those paralytic; and he healed them.

And great crowds followed him, from Galilee and the Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and beyond Jordan.
