And Jesus answered and spoke to them again in parables, saying:
The kingdom of the heavens has become like a man, a king, who made a wedding feast for his son.
And he sent his slaves to call those invited to the wedding feast, and they were not willing to come.
Again he sent other slaves, saying: Say to those invited: Behold, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and the fatlings are killed, and all things are ready; come to the wedding feast.
But they paid no attention and went away, that one indeed to his own field, and that one to his business;
And the rest, having laid hold of his slaves, mistreated and killed them.
Now when the king heard, he was angry, and he sent his armies and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
Then he says to his slaves: The wedding feast indeed is ready, but those invited were not worthy.
Therefore go into the thoroughfares of the highways, and as many as you shall find, invite to the wedding feast.
And those slaves went out into the highways and brought together all, as many as they found, both evil and good; and the wedding hall became full of those reclining.
Then the king entered in to see those reclining, and he saw there a man not dressed in clothes of wedding;
And he says to him: Friend, how did you enter here not having a garment of wedding? And he was speechless.
Then the king said to the servants: Having bound his feet and hands, take and cast him out into the outer darkness; there will be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth.
For many are called, but few chosen.
Then the Pharisees went out and took counsel how they may trap Him in His words.
And they send to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying: Teacher, we know that You are true and You teach the way of God in the truth, and there is no care to You about no one, for You do not look on the appearance of men.
Therefore tell us, what do You think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not?
But Jesus knew their malice and said: Why do you test Me, stage-actors?
Show Me the coin of the tribute. And they presented to Him a denarius.
And He says to them: Of whom is this likeness, and of whom is the inscription?
They say to Him: Of Caesar. Then He says to them: Therefore give back the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God.
And when they heard, they marveled, and they left Him and went away.
On that very day there came to Him Sadducees, those saying there is not a resurrection, and they questioned Him,
Saying: Teacher, Moses said: If anyone shall die not having children, his brother will marry his wife and he will raise up offspring for his brother.
Now there were among us seven brothers; and the first, when he had married, died, and not having seed, he left his wife to his brother;
Likewise also the second, and the third, until the seventh.
Then, finally of all, the woman died also.
Therefore in the resurrection, of which of the seven will she be wife? For all had her.
Now Jesus answered and said to them: You err, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.
For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but they are like the messengers of God in the heaven.
Now concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which has been spoken to you by God, saying:
I am God of Abraham and God of Isaac and God of Jacob? He is not God of the dead but of the living.
And the crowds, having heard, were astonished at his teaching.
And the Pharisees, when they heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, were gathered together the same.
And one of them, a lawyer, questioned Him, testing Him and saying:
Teacher, which commandment is the greatest in the law?
And Jesus was saying to him: You will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your being and with all your mind.
This is the great and first commandment.
And the second is like to it: You will love your neighbour as yourself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the Prophets.
Now when the Pharisees were assembled, Jesus questioned them,
Saying: What do you think concerning the Anointed One? Of whom is He son? They say to Him: Of David.
He says to them: How then does David in spirit call Him Lord, saying:
The Lord said to my Lord: Sit on my right hand until I place your enemies as a footstool for your feet?
Therefore if David calls Him Lord, how is He his son?
And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor dared anyone from that very day to question Him no longer.
