And the Pharisees and Sadducees approached, and testing Him they asked Him to show them a sign out of the skies.
And He answered and said to them: When evening has come, you say, Fair weather, for the sky is red.
And in the morning, Today a storm, for the sky is red and overcast. Stage-actors! The appearance of the sky you indeed know how to discern, but the signs of the times you are not able?
An evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign, and a sign will not be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet. And He left them and went away.
And when His disciples had come to the other side, they forgot to take bread.
And Jesus said to them: Watch and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
And they were reasoning among themselves, saying, Because we took no bread.
But Jesus, having known this, said to them: Why do you reason among yourselves, O you of little faith, because you take no bread?
Do you not yet understand, nor remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many hand-baskets you gathered?
Nor remember the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many baskets you gathered?
How do you not understand that I spoke to you not concerning loaves? Beware also of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees!
Then they understood that He said to beware not of the leaven of the loaves, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Then when Jesus had come into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was questioning His disciples, saying: Whom do the men pronounce Me, the Son of man, to be?
And they said: Some indeed, John the Baptist; however others, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.
He says to them: But you yourselves, whom do you pronounce Me to be?
Now Simon Peter, answering, said: You yourself are the Anointed One, the Son of the living God.
And Jesus answered and said to him: Blessed are you, Simon Barjona! For flesh and blood did not reveal it to you, but my Father who is in the heavens.
And I myself also say to you that you yourself are Peter, and on this rock I will build My assembly, and the gates of hades will not prevail against it.
And I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of the heavens, and whatever you shall bind on the earth will be bound in the heavens, and whatever you shall loose on the earth will be loosed in the heavens.
Then He ordered His disciples that they may say to no one that He himself is Jesus the Anointed One.
From that time Jesus the Anointed One began to show to His disciples that it is necessary for Him to go away to Jerusalem and to suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and to be killed, and on the third day to be raised.
And Peter, having taken Him aside, began to rebuke Him, saying: Far be it from You, Lord; this certainly will not be to You.
And He turned and said to Peter: Go behind Me, adversary! You are a stumbling block to me, for your thoughts are not of those of God, but of the things of men.
Then Jesus said to His disciples: If anyone desires to come after Me, he should deny himself and he should take up his cross and he should follow Me.
For whoever shall desire to rescue his life will lose it; however whoever shall lose his life on my account will find it.
For what will it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, but shall lose his being? Or what will a man give as an exchange for his being?
For the Son of the man is about to come in the glory of his Father with his messengers, and then He will give to each according to his deeds.
Amen I say to you that there are some of those standing here already who will never taste of death until they have seen the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.
