Matthew13

That day Jesus went out of the house and was sitting by the sea.

Great crowds gathered together to Him, so that He climbed into a boat and sat down, and all the crowd stood on the shore.

And He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: Behold, the one sowing went out to sow.

And in his sowing, some indeed fell along the road, and the birds came and devoured them.

Other fell upon the rocky places where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up, through not having depth of soil.

But when the sun had risen they were scorched, and through not having root were dried up.

Other fell upon the thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.

But other fell upon the good soil and were yielding fruit, some indeed a hundredfold, some however sixty, some however thirty.

The one who has ears to hear, he should hear.

And the disciples came and said to Him: Because of why do You speak to them in parables?

And He answered and said to them: Because to you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of the heavens, however to them it has not been granted.

For whoever has, it will be given to him and he will be abundant; but whoever has not, even what he has will be taken away from him.

Because of this I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.

And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, who is saying: In hearing you will hear and certainly not understand, and looking you will look and certainly not perceive.

For the heart of this people has grown dull, and with the ears they have barely heard, and their eyes they have closed; otherwise they may see with the eyes and hear with the ears and understand with the heart and may return, and I will heal them.

But blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear.

For amen I say to you that many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see, and did not see, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear.

Therefore you yourselves hear the parable of the one who sowed:

Everyone hearing the word of the kingdom and not understanding, the evil one comes and snatches away that having been sown in his heart; this is the one having been sown on the path.

Now that which having been sown upon the rocky places, this is the one hearing the word and immediately receiving it with joy.

But he has no root in himself and is temporary; however when tribulation or persecution is coming on account of the word, immediately he falls away.

Now that which had been sown among the thorns, this is the one hearing the word, and the care of this age and the deceit of riches choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

However that having been sown on the good soil, this is the one hearing the word and understanding, who indeed brings forth fruit and produces — some indeed a hundredfold, some however sixty, some however thirty.

He put another parable before them, saying: The kingdom of the heavens has become like a man having sown good seed in his field.

But in the time for the men to sleep, his enemy came and over-sowed weeds in the midst of the wheat and went away.

Now when the plants sprouted and produced fruit, then the weeds also appeared.

Now the slaves of the master of the house came to him and said to him: Sir, surely you did sow good seed in your field? How then does it have the weeds?

Then He was saying to them: An enemy, a man, did this. And the slaves say to him: Do you desire then that having gone forth we shall gather them?

And he says: No, lest when gathering the weeds you may uproot the wheat together with them.

Allow both to grow together until the harvest; and in the appointed-time of the harvest I will say to the harvesters: First gather the weeds and bind them into bundles in order to burn them; and gather the wheat together into my barn.

He put another parable before them, saying: The kingdom of the heavens is like a grain of mustard, which a man having taken sowed in his field;

Which indeed is the smallest of all the seeds, however when it may be grown it is greater than the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the skies come and perch in its branches.

He spoke another parable to them: The kingdom of the heavens is like leaven, which a woman having taken hid in three measures of flour until all was leavened.

All these things Jesus spoke in parables to the crowds, and without a parable He was speaking no thing to them,

So that may be fulfilled that having been spoken through the prophet, saying: I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.

Then when He had dismissed the crowds, Jesus went into the house. And his disciples came to Him, saying: Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.

And He answered and said to them: The one sowing the good seed is the Son of Man;

And the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the weeds are the sons of the evil one;

And the enemy who having sown them is the accuser; and the harvest is the consummation of the age; and the harvesters are messengers.

As therefore the weeds are gathered and burned up in fire, thus it will be in the consummation of this age.

The Son of Man will send forth his messengers, and they will gather out of his kingdom all the causes of sin and those who practice the lawlessness,

And they will cast them into the furnace of the fire; there will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. The one who has ears to hear, he should hear.

Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like treasure hidden in the field, which a man having found hid; and for its joy he goes and sells all as much as he has and buys that field.

Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like a man, a merchant, seeking fine pearls.

Now when he had found one very precious pearl, he had gone away and sold all things as much as he was having, and he bought it.

Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like a dragnet having been cast into the sea and having gathered together of every kind,

Which when it was filled, they drew up on the shore and sat down, and they collected the good into vessels, and the bad they cast out.

Thus will it be in the consummation of the age; the messengers will go out and will separate the evil from the midst of the righteous,

And will cast them into the furnace of the fire; there will be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth.

Jesus says to them: Did you understand all these things? They say to Him: Yes, Lord.

Then He said to them: Because of this, every scribe having been discipled into the kingdom of the heavens is like a man, a master of a house, who puts forth out of his treasure things new and old.

And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these parables, He withdrew from there;

And when He had come into his region, He was teaching them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said: From where came to this man this wisdom and the miraculous powers?

Surely this is the carpenter's Son? Surely his mother is named Mary? And his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?

And his sisters, surely all are with us? From where then to this man all these things?

And they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them: A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his household.

And He did not do many miracles there because of their distrust.
