And having summoned his twelve disciples, He gave to them authority over unclean spirits, so as to cast them out and to heal every disease and every sickness.
And the names of the twelve sent ones are these: first Simon, who is named Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, who has been called Thaddaeus;
Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, the one who also betrayed Him.
These twelve Jesus sent forth, having instructed them, saying: Into the way of the nations you shall not go off, and into any city of the Samaritans you shall not enter;
but rather go to those already perishing sheep of the house of Israel.
And going on, proclaim, saying that the kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.
Heal those ailing, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons; freely you received, freely give.
Take along neither gold nor silver nor copper in your belts,
nor a provision-bag for the way, nor take two tunics, nor sandals, nor a staff; for the workman is worthy of his provisions.
Now into whatever city or village you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and there remain until you go forth.
Now entering into the house, greet it.
And if indeed the house shall be worthy, your wholeness should come upon it; but unless it shall be worthy, your wholeness should return to you.
And whoever shall not receive you, nor shall hear your words, going forth out of the house or of the city, shake off the dust of your feet!
Amen I say to you: it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and of Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that city.
Behold, I myself send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves; therefore be shrewd as the serpents and innocent as the doves.
But beware of men; for they will deliver you into courts, and in their synagogues they will flog you;
and you will be brought before governors also, and kings, on my account, for a testimony to them and to the nations.
When then they may deliver you up, do not be anxious how or what you may speak; for it will be given you in that very hour what you may say;
for it is not you yourselves who are speaking, but the Spirit of your Father who is speaking through you.
Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and father a child; and children will rise up against parents and will put them to death.
And you will be hated by all on account of my name; but the one who has endured to the end, he will be saved.
Whenever then they persecute you in one city, flee to a different one; for Amen I say to you: you will never have completed the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes.
A disciple is not above the teacher, nor is a slave above his master.
It is sufficient for the disciple that he may become as his teacher, and the slave as his master. If they called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more his household members?
Therefore do not fear them; for no thing is concealed which will not be revealed, or hidden which will not be known.
What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, proclaim upon the housetops!
And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but not being able to kill the being; but rather be afraid of the One being able to destroy both the being and the body in the Valley of Hinnom.
Surely two sparrows are sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father!
But now even the hairs of your head are all numbered.
Therefore do not fear; you yourselves are worth more than many sparrows.
Therefore everyone who will confess in Me before men, I myself also will confess in him before my Father who is in the heavens.
Now whoever may deny Me before men, I myself also will deny him before my Father who is in the heavens.
Do not think that I came to bring peace to the land; I came not to bring peace, but a sword.
For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
and the enemies of the man are his household.
The one who loves father or mother above Me is not worthy of my; and the one who loves son or daughter above Me is not worthy of my;
and he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of my.
The one who has found his life will lose it, and the one who has lost his life on my account will find it.
The one receiving you receives Me, and the one receiving Me receives the One who has sent Me.
The one who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive the wage of a prophet, and the one who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive the wage of a righteous man.
And whoever shall give to drink to one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, Amen I say to you: certainly he shall not lose his wage.
