Then it came to pass, while the crowd was pressing on Him to hear the word of God, that He Himself was standing by the lake of Gennesaret.
And He saw two boats lying by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out from them and were washing the nets.
Then He climbed into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put off a little from the land; and when He had sat down, He was teaching the crowds from the boat.
Then when He left off speaking, He said to Simon, "Put off into the deep and lower your nets for a catch."
And Simon answered and said to Him, "Master, through the whole night when I had toiled, no thing have we taken; however, at your word I will let down the nets."
And when they had done this, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes; and their nets were breaking.
And they beckoned to the partners in the other boat to come and help them; and they came and filled both the boats, so that they were sinking.
Now when Simon Peter had seen it, he fell at the knees of Jesus, saying, "Depart from me, for a sinful man am I, Lord."
For amazement laid hold on him and on all those with him at the catch of the fish which they had taken,
and likewise also on James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Fear not; from now on you will be catching men."
And when they had brought the boats to the land, they left all things and followed Him.
And it came to pass, while He was in one of the cities, that behold, a man full of leprosy; and having seen Jesus, he fell upon his face and begged Him, saying, "Lord, if You shall be willing, You are able to cleanse me."
And He stretched out the hand and touched him, saying, "I am willing; be cleansed." And immediately the leprosy departed from him.
And He Himself ordered him to tell no one, "But having gone, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing, even as Moses commanded, for a testimony to them."
Now the report concerning Him was spread abroad still more, and great crowds were coming to hear and to be healed by Him from their sicknesses;
now He Himself was withdrawing into the wilderness and praying.
And it came to pass on one of the days that He Himself was teaching; and there were sitting by Pharisees and teachers of the law who had come out of every village of Galilee and of Judea and of Jerusalem; and the power of the Lord was with Him to heal.
And behold, men carrying upon a mat a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and to place him before Him.
And when they had not found through what way they may bring him in on account of the crowd, they went up on the housetop and through the tiles let him down with the mat into the midst before Jesus.
And when He had seen their trust, He said to him, "Man, your sins have been forgiven you."
And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, "Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who is able to forgive sins except God alone?"
Now when Jesus had known their reasonings, answering He said to them, "Why do you reason in your hearts?
Which is easier, to say, 'Your sins have been forgiven you,' or to say, 'Arise and walk'?
That you may know, however, that the Son of Man has authority on the land to forgive sins" — He said to the one paralyzed — "to you I say, arise, and having taken up your mat, go to your house."
And immediately he stood up before them, took up that on which he was lying, and departed to his home, glorifying God.
And amazement seized all, and they were glorifying God and were filled with fear, saying that "We have seen remarkable things today."
And after these things He went forth and saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the tax booth, and He said to him, "Follow Me."
And when he had left all things, he arose and was following Him.
And Levi made a great banquet for Him in his house, and there was a great multitude of tax collectors and others who were reclining with them.
And the Pharisees and their scribes were grumbling at his disciples, saying, "Because of why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?"
And Jesus answered and said to them, "Those being well have no need of a physician, but those being sick.
I have not come to call righteous ones, but sinners to change of heart."
And they said to Him, "Through why do the disciples of John fast often and make prayers, likewise also those of the Pharisees, however your own eat and drink?"
And Jesus said to them, "You are not able to make the sons of the bridechamber fast in which time the bridegroom is with them?
However, days will come also when the bridegroom may be taken away from them; then in those days they will fast."
Now He was speaking also a parable to them, that "No one, having torn a piece of a new garment, puts it on an old garment; then, lest indeed also the new will tear, and to the old it will not match, the piece of the new.
And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; then, lest indeed the new wine will burst the wineskins and it will be spilled out, and the wineskins will be destroyed;
but new wine must be put into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.
And no one, having drunk old wine, immediately desires new; for he says, 'The old is good.'"
