Luke24

But on the first day of the week, at dawn very early, they came to the tomb, bringing the spices that they had prepared, and certain others with them.

Then they found the stone rolled away from the tomb.

But when they had entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

And it came to pass, while they were perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in dazzling garments.

Then they became terrified, and bowing their faces to the ground, the men said to them: Why do you seek the living among the dead?

He is not here; he is risen! Remember how he spoke to you while he was yet in Galilee,

saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day arise.

And they remembered his words,

and when they had returned from the tomb, they related all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.

Now it was Mary the Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary of James, and the other women with them, who were telling these things to the sent ones,

and their words appeared before them like folly, and they were not believing in them.

But Peter, when he had risen up, ran to the tomb, and when he had stooped down, he sees the linen strips lying alone, and he went away, wondering in himself at that which had come to pass.

And behold, two of them on that same day were going to a village distant sixty stadia from Jerusalem, whose name is Emmaus.

And they themselves were talking with one another about all these things which had taken place.

And it came to pass, during their talking and reasoning, that Jesus himself, when he had drawn near, was walking along with them.

But their eyes were held, not to know him.

Then he said to them: What are these words that you exchange with one another as you walk? And they stood still, looking sad.

Now answering, the one whose name was Cleopas said to him: Do you yourself alone visit in Jerusalem and not have known the things that have come to pass in it in these days?

And he said to them: What things? And they said to him: The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a man, a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,

and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to the judgment of death and crucified him.

But we ourselves were hoping that it is he himself who is about to redeem Israel. But indeed, also, with all these things, this is the third day today from which these things came to pass.

But also certain women out from us amazed us, having been at the tomb at dawn,

and when they had not found his body, they came declaring also to have seen a vision of messengers, who say he is living.

And some of those with us went to the tomb, and found it so, even as also the women said; however, they did not see him.

And he himself said to them: O foolish ones, and slow of heart to trust in all that the prophets spoke;

surely it was necessary for the Anointed One to suffer these things and to enter into his glory?

And when he had begun from Moses and from all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

And they drew near to the village where they were going, and he himself appeared to be going farther.

And they constrained him, saying: Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day has now declined. And he entered in to abide with them.

And it came to pass, during his reclining with them, when he had taken the bread, he blessed it, and when he had broken it, he was giving it to them.

Then their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he himself, being seen, vanished from them.

And they said to one another: Surely our heart was burning within us, as he was speaking with us on the road, and as he was opening to us the Scriptures?

And when they had risen up on that same hour, they returned to Jerusalem, and they found the eleven gathered, and those with them,

saying that indeed the Lord has risen, and he has appeared to Simon.

And they themselves were relating the things on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread.

Now while they are telling these things, Jesus himself stood in their midst and says to them: Wholeness to you.

But when they had been terrified and filled with fear, they were thinking themselves to see a spirit.

And he said to them: Why are you troubled, and through why do doubts come up in your heart?

See my hands and my feet, that I am he himself; for touch me and see, a spirit has not flesh and bones, even as you see me having.

And when he had said this, he showed to them the hands and the feet.

Now while they are still disbelieving for the joy and amazement, he said to them: Have you anything to eat here?

And they gave to him part of a broiled fish and a tablet from a honeycomb.

And when he had taken it before them, he ate it.

Now he said to them: These are my words which I spoke to you while being still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which are written in the law of Moses and in the Prophets and in the Psalms concerning me.

Then he opened their mind to understand the Scriptures,

and he said to them that thus it has been written, and thus it was necessary for the Anointed One to suffer and to rise out from the dead on the third day,

and that change of heart to forgiveness of sins be proclaimed in his name to all the nations, having begun from Jerusalem.

Now you yourselves are witnesses of these things,

and behold, I myself am sending the promise of my Father upon you; however, you yourselves remain in the city Jerusalem until you are clothed with power from on high.

Now he led them out until to Bethany, and when he had lifted up his hands, he blessed them.

And it came to pass, during the blessing by him, he was separated from them, and was carried up into the heaven.

And they themselves, having worshiped him, returned to Jerusalem with great joy,

and were through all times in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
