Then He was speaking a parable to them about it needing them always to pray and not to lose heart,
saying, "There was a certain judge in a certain city, not fearing God and not respecting man.
Then there was a widow in that city, and she was coming to him, saying, 'Avenge me of my adversary.'
And he was not desiring to, for a time; however, afterward he said within himself, 'If even I do not fear God nor respect man,
yet because this widow occasions me trouble, I will avenge her, so that she may not exhaust me by coming to the end.'"
Then the Lord said, "Hear what the unrighteous judge says;
and will God certainly not do the avenging of His chosen, the ones crying out to Him day and night, and be patient in regard to them?
I say to you that He will carry out their avenging with speed. Nevertheless, the Son of Man, having come, surely He will not find the trust on the land?"
Now He spoke also this parable to some having trusted in themselves that they are righteous, and despising the others:
"Two men went up into the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
The Pharisee, having stood, was praying these things toward himself: 'O God, I thank You that I am not like the rest of the men — swindlers, unrighteous, adulterers — or even like this tax collector.
I fast twice in the week, I tithe all things as much as I gain.'
And the tax collector, having stood afar off, was not willing to lift up even the eyes to the heaven, but was striking into his breast, saying, 'O God, be merciful to me, the sinner!'
I say to you, this one went down to his house justified rather than that one. For everyone who lifts up himself will be humbled, however the one humbling himself will be lifted up."
Then they were bringing to Him also the infants, that He may touch them; however, having seen it, the disciples were rebuking them.
But Jesus called them, speaking, "Permit the little children to come to Me, and forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of God.
Amen I say to you, whoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a child shall certainly not enter into it."
And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, "Good Teacher, what having done will I inherit eternal life?"
Then Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good except one, God.
You know the commandments: 'You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, honor your father and your mother.'"
And he said, "These all I kept from my youth."
Then Jesus, having heard these things, said to him, "Yet one thing to you is lacking: sell all as much as you have, and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in the heavens; and come, follow Me."
And when he had heard these things, he became very sorrowful, for he was extremely rich.
Then Jesus, having seen him become sorrowful, said, "How difficult it is for those having the riches when they enter into the kingdom of God.
For it is easier for a camel to go through an eye of a needle than a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."
Then those who heard said, "Then who is able to be saved?"
But He said, "The things impossible with men are possible with God."
Then Peter said, "Behold, we ourselves, having abandoned our own things, followed You."
And He said to them, "Amen I say to you that there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God,
who will certainly not receive back manifold more in this appointed-time — and in the age which is coming, eternal life."
Then, when He had taken aside the Twelve, He said to them, "Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things will be accomplished which are written through the prophets about the Son of Man;
for He will be handed over to the nations and will be mocked and will be insulted and will be spit upon,
and when they had flogged Him, they will kill Him, and on the third day He will rise again."
And they themselves understood no thing of these things, and this word was hidden from them, and neither were they knowing the things being spoken.
Then it came to pass, in His drawing near to Jericho, a certain blind man was sitting beside the road, begging.
Now when he had heard a crowd passing along, he was asking what this might be.
Then they told him that Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.
And he called out, saying, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me."
And those going before were rebuking him, that he may be silent; however he himself much more was crying out, "Son of David, have mercy on me."
Then Jesus, having stopped, commanded him to be brought to Him. Then when he was approaching, He asked him,
saying, "What do you desire I may do to you?" And he said, "Lord, that I may receive sight."
And Jesus said to him, "Receive sight: your trust has healed you."
And immediately he received sight and was following Him, glorifying God. And all the people, having seen it, gave praise to God.
