Now at that same appointed-time some were present, telling Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
And answering, Jesus said to them: Do you think that these Galileans were sinners beyond all the Galileans, because they have suffered these things?
No, I say to you; but unless you change your heart, you will all likewise perish.
Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them — do you think that they were debtors beyond all the men who are dwelling in Jerusalem?
No, I say to you; but unless you change your heart, you will all likewise perish.
Then He was speaking this parable: A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and did not find any.
Then he said to the vinedresser: Behold, for three years throughout these I come seeking fruit on this fig tree and do not find any; therefore cut it down. Why should it even use up the ground?
And answering, he says to him: Sir, leave it also this year, until I dig around it and put in manure;
And perhaps indeed it shall bear fruit in the time soon happening; but if not, then you will cut it down.
Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbaths.
And behold, a woman was there having a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and she was bent over and not able to lift herself up to the full.
Then when He had seen her, Jesus called her near and said to her: Madam, you have been freed from your sickness.
And He laid the hands upon her, and immediately she was made straight and was beginning to glorify God.
Now answering, the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus healed on the Sabbath, was saying to the crowd: There are six days in which it behooves to work; therefore in these coming be healed, and not on the day of the Sabbath.
Therefore the Lord answered him and said: Stage-actors! Each one of you on the Sabbath — does he not untie his ox or the donkey from the stall, and having led it away give it drink?
Now this daughter of Abraham, whom the adversary has bound, behold, ten and eight years — was she not to be loosed from this bond on the day of the Sabbath?
And when He was saying these things, all those opposed to Him were ashamed, and all the crowd was rejoicing at all the glorious things which were being done by Him.
Then He was saying: To what is the kingdom of God like? And to what will I liken it?
It is like a grain of mustard which a man, having taken, cast into his own garden, and it grew and became into a great tree, and the birds of the skies encamped in its branches.
And again He said: To what will I liken the kingdom of God?
It is like leaven which a woman, having taken, hid in three measures of meal until it was all leavened.
And He was going through by towns and villages, teaching and making progress toward Jerusalem.
Then one said to Him: Lord, if are they few, those being saved? And He said to them:
Strive to enter in through the narrow door; for many, I say to you, will seek to enter in and will not be able.
From when the master of the house may have risen up and may have shut the door, you may begin to have stood outside and to knock at the door, saying: Lord, open to us; and he, answering, will say to you: I do not know you, from where are you;
Then you will begin to say: We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets;
And he will speak, saying to you: I do not know you, from where you are; depart from me, all you workers of unrighteousness.
There will be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth, when you may behold Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you being cast out.
And they will come from east and west and from north and south, and will recline in the kingdom of God.
And behold, there are last who will be first, and there are first who will be last.
In that same hour certain Pharisees came near, saying to Him: Go out and proceed from here, for Herod desires to kill You.
And He said to them: Having gone, say to that fox: Behold, I cast out demons and complete cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I am perfected.
But it behooves Me to proceed today and tomorrow and to the day following, for it is not possible for a prophet to perish outside of Jerusalem.
Jerusalem, you who are killing the prophets and stoning those sent to her, how often I have wanted to gather those your children the way a hen gathers her own brood under the wings, and you were not willing?
Behold, your house is left to you desolate. Now, Amen I say to you that you will never see Me until the time will come when you say: Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord.
