After these things the Lord appointed seventy-two others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was soon to go.
And He was saying to them, "The harvest indeed is plentiful, but the workmen are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest that He may send out workmen into His harvest.
Go; behold, I myself send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves.
Carry neither purse nor bag nor sandals, and greet no one on the road.
Into whatever house you may enter, first say, 'Wholeness to this house.'
And if there shall indeed be a son of wholeness, your wholeness will rest upon him; but if not, it will return to you.
Remain in the same house, eating and drinking the things supplied by them; for the workman is worthy of his wages. Do not move from house to house.
And into whatever city you may enter, and they may receive you, eat the things set before you.
And heal the sick in it, and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has drawn near to you.'
But into whatever city you may enter, and they may not receive you, having gone out into its streets, say,
'Even the dust which has clung to us out of your city, we wipe off against you at the feet; yet know this, that the kingdom of God has drawn near upon you.'
I say to you that it will be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city.
Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles having taken place in you had taken place in Tyre and Sidon, long ago they would have repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and for Sidon in the judgment than for you.
And you yourself, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the heaven? You will be brought down to Hades.
The one who hears you hears Me, and the one who rejects you rejects Me; now the one rejecting Me rejects the One who sent Me."
Then the seventy-two returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us through your name."
And He said to them, "I was beholding the adversary having fallen as lightning out of the skies.
Behold, I have given you the authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions and upon all the power of the enemy, and nothing will certainly injure you.
Yet rejoice not in this, that the spirits are subjected to you; but rejoice more that your names have been written in the heavens."
In the same hour He rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, "I fully consent to You, Father, Lord of the skies and of the earth, for You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and revealed them to little children. Yes, O Father, for thus it was well-pleasing before You.
All things were delivered to Me by my Father, and no one knows who is the Son except the Father only, and who is the Father except the Son only, and to whom the Son may resolve to reveal Him."
And having turned to the disciples in private, He said, "Blessed are the eyes which are seeing what you see!
For I say to you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you yourselves see and did not see, and to hear what you hear and did not hear."
And behold, a certain lawyer stood up, testing Him and saying, "Teacher, what having done will I inherit eternal life?"
And He said to him, "In the law what has been written? How do you read?"
And answering, he said, "You will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your being and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbour as yourself."
And He said to him, "You have answered correctly; perform this and you will live."
But desiring to justify himself, he said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbour?"
Having taken it up, Jesus said, "A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, who both stripped him and inflicted wounds, and went away, having left him in a half-dead state.
Now by chance a certain priest was going down on that road, and when he had seen him, he passed by opposite.
Likewise also a Levite, having come to the spot and seen him, passed by opposite.
But a certain Samaritan, journeying, came to him, and having seen him, was moved with compassion,
and when he had approached, he bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then when he had put him on his own beast, he brought him to an inn and took care of him.
And on the next day, when he had gone out, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, 'Take care of him, and whatever more you may expend, I myself, on my returning, will repay you.'
Which of these three seems to you to have been a neighbour of the one falling among the robbers?"
And he said, "The one who showed compassion toward him." Then Jesus said to him, "Go, and you yourself act likewise."
Now it came to pass, in their proceeding, that He Himself entered into a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha received Him into her house.
And she had a sister being called Mary, who also, having sat down at the feet of the Lord, was listening to his word.
But Martha was distracted about much service; and when she had come up, she said, "Lord, is it not of concern to You that my sister has left me alone to serve? Therefore speak to her that she may help me!"
Now the Lord answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things,
but few things, or one thing, is necessary; for Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her."
