And Yahweh spoke to Moses on the mountain of Sinai, saying:
Speak to the children of Israel and say to them: When you come into the land that I am giving you, the land shall cease, a sabbath for Yahweh.
Six years you shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune your vineyard, and gather in its yield.
And in the seventh year a sabbath of sabbath observance shall belong to the land, a sabbath for Yahweh; your field you shall not sow, and your vineyard you shall not prune.
The self-sown growth of your harvest you shall not reap, and the grapes of your untrimmed vines you shall not gather; a year of sabbath observance it shall be for the land.
And the sabbath of the land shall be food for you — for you, and for your slave, and for your maidservant, and for your hired man, and for your resident, those who sojourn with you.
And for your livestock and for the living creatures that are in your land, all its yield shall be for eating.
And you shall count for yourself seven sabbaths of years, seven years seven times; and the days of the seven sabbaths of years shall be to you forty-nine years.
And you shall send the horn of the shout across in the seventh month, on the tenth of the month; on the day of the atonements you shall send the horn across all your land.
And you shall set apart the fiftieth year as holy, and you shall proclaim liberty in the land to all its inhabitants; it is a ram's horn — it shall be that to you; and you shall return, each one to his possession, and each one to his clan you shall return.
A ram's horn it is: the fiftieth year shall be so for you; you shall not sow, and you shall not reap its self-sown growth, and you shall not gather its untrimmed vines.
For it is a ram's horn; a holy thing it shall be for you; from the field you shall eat its yield.
In this year of the ram's horn you shall return, each one to his possession.
And if you sell wares to your fellow or buy from the hand of your fellow, you shall not maltreat, each his brother.
By the number of years after the ram's horn you shall buy from your fellow; by the number of years of yield he shall sell to you.
In proportion to the abundance of the years you shall increase its purchase price, and in proportion to the fewness of the years you shall diminish its purchase price; for it is the number of yields that he is selling to you.
And you shall not maltreat one another, each man his fellow; and you shall fear your God, for I am Yahweh your God.
And you will do my statutes, and my ordinances you will keep, and you will do them, and you will dwell on the land in security.
And the land will give its fruit, and you will eat your fill, and you will dwell in security on it.
And if you say, What will we eat in the seventh year? Look, we will not sow, and we will not gather our harvest —
then I will command my blessing for you in the sixth year, and it will yield the harvest for the three years.
And you will sow in the eighth year, and you will eat from the old produce; until the ninth year, until its produce comes in, you will eat the old.
And the land will not be sold permanently, for the land is mine, for you are sojourners and residents with me.
And in all the land of your possession, you will give redemption to the land.
If your brother grows poor and sells some of his possession, then his kinsman-redeemer, the nearest one will come to him and will redeem the thing sold by his brother.
And when a man has no kinsman-redeemer, and his hand reaches, and he finds enough for his redemption,
Then he will reckon the years of its sale, and he will return the part that exceeds to the man to whom he sold it, and he will return to his possession.
And if his hand has not found enough to give back to him, then what he sold will remain in the hand of the one who bought it until the year of the ram's horn; it will go out at the ram's horn, and he will return to his possession.
And if a man sells a dwelling house in a walled city, then its right of redemption will remain until the year of its sale is finished; its right of redemption will last for days.
And if it is not redeemed until a whole year is completed for him, then the house that is in the city that has a wall will stand permanently for the one who bought it, throughout his generations; it will not go out at the ram's horn.
And the houses of the villages that have no wall around them will be reckoned as the field of the land; a right of redemption will belong to it, and at the ram's horn it will go out.
And the cities of the Levites, the houses of the cities of their possession, a right of redemption will belong to the Levites forever.
And whoever of the Levites redeems, then the sale of a house and a city of his possession will go out at the ram's horn; for the houses of the cities of the Levites are their possession among the children of Israel.
And the field of the open land of their cities will not be sold, for it is a possession forever for them.
And if your brother grows poor, and his hand slips beside you, then you will take hold of him as a sojourner and a resident, and he will live beside you.
Do not take from him interest or profit, and fear your God, and your brother will live with you.
You will not give him your silver at interest, and you will not give your food for profit.
I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, to be your God.
And if your brother grows poor beside you and is sold to you, you will not put him to work at the labor of a slave.
Like a hired laborer, like a resident he will be with you; until the year of the ram's horn he will work beside you.
And he will go out from beside you, he and his sons with him, and will return to his clan, and to the possession of his fathers he will return.
For they are my slaves, whom I brought them out of the land of Egypt; they will not be sold as a slave is sold.
You will not rule over him with harshness, and you will fear your God.
And your male slave and your female slave who will belong to you: from the nations that are around you, from them you will buy a male slave and a female slave.
And also from the children of the residents who sojourn with you, from them you will buy, and from their clan that is with you, whom they have fathered in your land; and they will belong to you as a possession.
And you will bequeath them to your sons after you, to inherit as a possession forever; through them you will work. But over your brothers, the children of Israel, each over his brother, you will not rule over him with harshness.
And if the hand of a sojourner and resident beside you has reached enough, and your brother grows poor beside him and is sold to a sojourner, a resident beside you, or to a member of the clan of a sojourner,
after he has been sold, a right of redemption will belong to him; one of his brothers will redeem him,
or his uncle, or his uncle's son will redeem him, or any close relative of his flesh from his clan will redeem him; or his hand has reached enough, and he is redeemed.
And he will reckon with the one who bought him, from the year of his being sold to him until the year of the ram's horn; and the silver of his sale will be by the number of years, like the days of a hired laborer he will be with him.
If there are still many years, according to them he will pay back the price of his redemption out of the silver of his purchase.
And if only a few years remain until the year of the ram's horn, then he will reckon it to himself; in proportion to his years he will repay the price of his redemption.
Like a hired man, year by year he will be with him; he will not rule over him with crushing harshness before your eyes.
And if he is not redeemed by these means, then he will go out in the year of the ram's horn, he and his sons with him.
For to me the children of Israel are slaves; my slaves they are, whom I brought them out of the land of Egypt — I am Yahweh your God.
