Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying to them,
Speak to the children of Israel, saying: These are the living creatures that you may eat from all the livestock that are on the land.
Any one among the livestock that divides the hoof, splitting the cleft of the hoofs, and brings up the cud: that one you may eat.
Only this you will not eat from those that bring up the cud and from those that divide the hoof: the camel, for it brings up the cud, but it is not dividing a hoof; it is unclean to you.
And the rock-rabbit, for it brings up the cud, but it does not divide a hoof; it is unclean to you.
And the hare, for it brings up the cud, but it does not divide a hoof; it is unclean to you.
And the pig, for it divides the hoof and splits the cleft of the hoof, but it does not bring up the cud; it is unclean to you.
You will not eat any of their flesh, and you will not touch their carcass; they are unclean to you.
This you may eat from all that is in the waters: everything that has a fin and a scale in the waters, in the seas and in the wadis, those you may eat.
And all that has no fin and scale, in the seas and in the wadis, of all the swarming things of the waters, and of every living being that is in the waters, they are detestable to you.
And they will be detestable to you; you will not eat any of their flesh, and their carcass you will treat as detestable.
Everything that has no fin and scale in the waters, it is a detestable thing to you.
And these you will loathe among the birds; they will not be eaten, they are detestable: the eagle, the bearded vulture, and the osprey.
And the kite and the falcon, each according to its kind.
And every raven according to its kind.
And the daughter of the ostrich, the nighthawk, the gull, and the hawk, each according to its kind.
And the owl, the cormorant, and the night heron.
And the water-hen, the pelican, and the carrion vulture.
And the stork, the heron, each according to its kind, and the hoopoe and the bat.
Every swarming thing of the flying creatures that goes on four legs is a detestable thing to you.
Only this you may eat from every swarming thing of the flying creatures that goes on four, which has legs above its feet, to leap with them on the land.
Of these you may eat: the locust according to its kind, the destroying locust according to its kind, the cricket according to its kind, and the grasshopper according to its kind.
And every swarming thing of the flying creatures that has four feet is a detestable thing to you.
And by these you will become unclean; everyone who touches their carcass will be unclean until the evening.
And everyone who carries any of their carcass will wash his garments, and be unclean until the evening.
As for every animal that divides the hoof but does not split the cleft, and does not bring up the cud: they are unclean to you; everyone who touches them will be defiled.
And all that walks on its paws, among every living creature that walks on four, is unclean to you; everyone who touches their carcass will be unclean until evening.
And whoever carries their carcass will wash his garments and be unclean until evening; they are unclean to you.
And these are the unclean to you among the swarming things that swarm on the land: the weasel, the mouse, and the lizard of its kind.
And the gecko, the monitor lizard, the lizard, the skink, and the chameleon.
These are the unclean to you among all the swarming things; whoever touches them when they are dead will be unclean until evening.
And anything on which any of them falls when they are dead will be unclean, any article of wood, or a garment, or a hide, or sackcloth, any article in which work is done; it must be brought into the water, and it will be unclean until evening; then it will be clean.
And any vessel of earthenware into which any of them falls, everything that is inside it will be unclean, and you must break it.
Of all the food that may be eaten, any on which water has come will be unclean; and any drink that may be drunk in any vessel will be unclean.
And anything on which any of their carcass falls will be unclean: a fire-pot and a cooking range must be broken down; they are unclean, and unclean they will be to you.
Only a spring or a cistern, a collection of water, will be clean; but whoever touches their carcass will be unclean.
And if any of their carcass falls on any sowing seed that is to be sown, it is clean.
But if water is put on seed, and some of their carcass falls on it, it is unclean to you.
And if any of the livestock that is food for you dies, whoever touches its carcass will be unclean until evening.
And whoever eats any of its carcass will wash his garments and be unclean until evening; and whoever carries its carcass will wash his garments and be unclean until evening.
And every swarming thing that swarms on the land is detestable; it must not be eaten.
Anything that walks on the belly, and anything that walks on four, up to anything that has many feet, among all the swarming things that swarm on the land, you must not eat them, for they are detestable.
Do not make your living selves detestable by any swarming thing that swarms, and do not make yourselves unclean by them, so that you become unclean by them.
For I am Yahweh your God; and set yourselves apart and be holy, for I am holy. And do not make unclean your living selves by any swarming thing that creeps on the land.
For I am Yahweh, who brought up you from the land of Egypt to be your God; and you will be holy, for I am holy.
This is the instruction about the livestock and the bird, and every living being that creeps in the waters, and for every being that swarms on the land.
To separate between the unclean and the clean, and between the life that is eaten and the life which will not be eaten.
