Joshua6

Now Jericho was shut tight, closed up, from the face of the children of Israel; no one was going out, and no one was coming in.

Yahweh said to Joshua: See, I have set Jericho in your hand, with its king and the mighty men of valor.

You will go around the city, all the men of war, encircling the city one time; so you will do for six days.

Seven priests will carry seven horns of ram's horn before the ark; and on the seventh day you will go around the city seven times, and the priests will blow on the horns.

It will happen, when they draw out a note on the ram's horn, as you hear the sound of the horn, that all the people will raise a great shout; and the wall of the city will fall beneath itself, and the people will go up, each man straight in front of him.

Joshua son of Nun called to the priests and said to them: Lift the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests carry seven horns of ram's horn before the ark of Yahweh.

He said to the people: Pass on and go around the city, and let the armed men pass on before the ark of Yahweh.

It happened, as Joshua had said to the people, that the seven priests carrying seven horns of ram's horn before Yahweh passed on and blew on the horns; and the ark of the covenant of Yahweh went behind them.

The armed men were walking before the priests who blew the horns, and the rearguard was walking behind the ark, walking on and blowing on the horns.

Joshua commanded the people, saying: You will not shout, and you will not let be heard your sound, and no word will go out from your mouth, until the day I say to you: Shout; then you will shout.

So he had the ark of Yahweh go around the city, encircling it one time; and they came into the camp and spent the night in the camp.

Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests lifted the ark of Yahweh.

The seven priests carrying the seven horns of ram's horn before the ark of Yahweh were walking, walking on and blowing on the horns; the armed men were walking before them, and the rearguard was walking behind the ark of Yahweh, walking on and blowing on the horns.

On the second day they went around the city one time and returned to the camp. So they did for six days.

It happened on the seventh day that they rose early as the dawn came up, and went around the city in this manner seven times; only on that day they went around the city seven times.

It happened at the seventh time, as the priests blew on the horns, that Joshua said to the people: Shout, for Yahweh has given you the city.

The city will be a devoted thing, it and all that is in it, to Yahweh; only Rahab the prostitute will live, she and all who are with her in the house, for she hid the messengers whom we sent.

But only you, keep from the devoted things, lest you devote them to destruction, and take some of the devoted things, and make the camp of Israel into a devoted thing and trouble it.

And all silver and gold, and the articles of bronze and iron, it is a holy thing to Yahweh; into the treasury of Yahweh it will come.

The people shouted, and they blew on the horns. It happened, when the people heard the sound of the horn, that the people raised a great shout, and the wall fell beneath itself, and the people went up into the city, each man straight in front of him, and they captured the city.

They devoted to destruction all that was in the city, from man to woman, from boy to old man, and even ox and sheep and donkey, with the edge of the sword.

Joshua said to the two men who had scouted out the land: Go into the house of the woman, the prostitute, and bring out from there the woman with everything that is hers, as you swore to her.

The young men who had scouted came in and brought out Rahab, her father, her mother, her brothers, and everything that was hers; and all her families they brought out, and set them down outside the camp of Israel.

And the city they burned with fire, and everything that was in it; only the silver and the gold and the articles of bronze and iron they put into the treasury of the house of Yahweh.

And Rahab the prostitute, and the house of her father, and all that belonged to her, Joshua let live; and she dwelled in the midst of Israel until this day, for she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

And Joshua swore at that time, saying: Cursed is the man before the face of Yahweh who will rise up and build this city, Jericho; with his firstborn he will found it, and with his little one he will set up its doors.

And Yahweh was with Joshua, and his fame was in all the land.
