Joshua24

And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and summoned the elders of Israel, its heads, its judges, and its officials; and they took their stand before the face of God.

And Joshua said to all the people, Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: Your fathers dwelled on the far side of the River since forever—Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor—and they served other gods.

Then I took your father Abraham from the other side of the River and led him through all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.

And I gave to Isaac Jacob and Esau; and I gave to Esau the mountain of Seir to take possession of it; but Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt.

And I sent Moses and Aaron, and I struck Egypt, as I did in its midst; and afterward I brought you out.

And I brought out your fathers from Egypt, and you came to the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariotry and horsemen to the Sea of Reeds.

And they cried out to Yahweh, and he put darkness between you and between the Egyptians, and he brought the sea upon them and covered them; and your eyes saw what I did in Egypt. And you dwelled in the wilderness for many days.

And I brought you to the land of the Amorite that dwells on the other side of the Jordan, and they fought with you; and I gave them into your hand, and you took possession of their land; and I destroyed them from your face.

And Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab rose and fought against Israel; and he sent and called Balaam son of Beor to curse you.

But I was not willing to listen to Balaam; so he blessed you again and again, and I delivered you from his hand.

And you crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho, and the citizens of Jericho fought against you—the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Girgashite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; and I gave them into your hand.

And I sent the hornet before your face, and it drove them out from before your face—the two kings of the Amorite—not by your sword, and not by your bow.

And I gave you a land that you did not toil in it, and cities that you did not build, and you dwelled in them; vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant, you eat.

And now, fear Yahweh and serve him in wholeness and in stability; and remove the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt, and serve Yahweh.

And if it is displeasing in your eyes to serve Yahweh, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods that your fathers served, who were from the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorite in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my household, we will serve Yahweh.

And the people answered and said, Far be it from us to forsake Yahweh, to serve other gods!

For Yahweh our God, he is the one who brought up us and our fathers from the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves, and who did before our eyes those great signs, and kept us along all the way that we went in it, and among all the peoples through whose midst we passed.

And Yahweh drove out all the peoples from our face, even the Amorite who dwelled in the land; we also will serve Yahweh, for he is our God.

And Joshua said to the people, You are not able to serve Yahweh, for he is a holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not take away your transgression and your sins.

If you forsake Yahweh and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do harm to you and make an end of you, after he has done good to you.

And the people said to Joshua, No, rather we will serve Yahweh.

And Joshua said to the people, You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen Yahweh for yourselves, to serve him. And they said, Witnesses.

And now remove the gods of the foreigners that are in your midst, and bend your heart toward Yahweh the God of Israel.

And the people said to Joshua, "Yahweh our God we will serve, and to his voice we will listen."

And Joshua cut a covenant for the people on that day, and set for them a statute and justice at Shechem.

And Joshua wrote these words in the record of the instruction of God; and he took a great stone and raised it there under the oak that was in the sanctuary of Yahweh.

And Joshua said to all the people, "See, this stone will be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words of Yahweh that he spoke with us; and it will be a witness against you, lest you deny your God."

And Joshua sent the people away, each man to his inheritance.

And it happened after these words that Joshua son of Nun, the slave of Yahweh, died, one hundred and ten years old.

And they interred him in the boundary of his inheritance, at Timnath-serah, which is in the mountain of Ephraim, north of the mountain of Gaash.

And Israel served Yahweh all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the old men who lengthened their days after Joshua, and who knew all the work of Yahweh that he had done for Israel.

And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel had brought up from Egypt, they interred at Shechem, in the portion of the field that Jacob had bought from the children of Hamor, the father of Shechem, for a hundred pieces of money; and they became an inheritance for the children of Joseph.

And Eleazar son of Aaron died; and they interred him at Gibeah of Phinehas his son, which had been given to him in the mountain of Ephraim.
