¹And it came to pass, many days after Yahweh had given rest to Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua was old, advanced in days.

²And Joshua summoned all Israel, its elders, its heads, its judges, and its officials, and said to them, I am old; I have come on in days.

³And you have seen all that Yahweh your God has done to all these nations before your face; for Yahweh your God, he is the one fighting for you.

⁴See, I have allotted to you these remaining nations as an inheritance for your tribes, from the Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, and the Great Sea at the sun's going-in.

⁵And Yahweh your God, he himself will drive them out from your face, and will dispossess them from before you; and you will take possession of their land, as Yahweh your God spoke to you.

⁶And be very strong, to keep and to do all that is written in the scroll of the instruction of Moses, not turning aside from it to the right hand or the left.

⁷so that you do not go in among these nations, these who remain with you, and do not mention the name of their God, nor make anyone swear, nor serve them, nor bow down to them;

⁸but you shall cleave to Yahweh your God, as you have done until this day.

⁹And Yahweh dispossessed great and mighty nations from before your face; and as for you, not a man has stood before your face until this day.

¹⁰One man of you chases a thousand, for Yahweh your God, he is the one who fights for you, just as he spoke to you.

¹¹And you must be on guard very much, for your living selves, to love Yahweh your God.

¹²For if you indeed turn back and cling to the rest of these nations, these who remain with you, and intermarry with them, and go in among them, and they among you;

¹³Know for certain that Yahweh your God will not continue to dispossess these nations from before your face; and they will become for you a bird-trap and a snare, a scourge on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good ground which Yahweh your God has given you.

¹⁴And look, I am going today the way of all the land; and you know with all your heart and with all your being that not one word has fallen from all the good words that Yahweh your God spoke concerning you; everything has come to you, not one word has fallen from it.

¹⁵And it will be that just as every good word has come upon you which Yahweh your God spoke to you, so Yahweh will bring upon you every evil word, until he has destroyed you from off this good ground which Yahweh your God has given you.

¹⁶When you pass beyond the covenant of Yahweh your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, then Yahweh's anger will burn against you, and you will perish quickly from off the good land which he has given you.
