Joel2

Blast a horn in Zion, and raise a shout on my holy mountain; let all the dwellers in the land tremble; for the day of Yahweh is coming, for it is near.

A day of darkness and gloom, a day of cloud and thick cloud, like dawn spread out over the mountains — a people numerous and mighty, the like of which has not been since forever, and after it there will be no more, to the years of generation after generation.

Before its face a fire has eaten, and behind it a flame sets ablaze; the land before its face is like the garden of Eden, and behind it a wilderness of wasteland, and also there is no escape from it.

Its look is like the look of horses, and like horsemen, so they run.

Like the sound of chariots over the tops of the mountains they leap, like the sound of a flame of fire eating stubble, like a mighty people drawn up for battle.

Before its face peoples writhe; all faces gather a flush.

Like mighty men they run, like men of war they go up a wall; and each man goes in his ways, and they do not exchange their paths.

And each man does not crowd his brother; a man goes along his highway, and among the weapons they fall, they do not break off.

They rush at the city, on the wall they run, into the houses they go up; at the windows they come in like a thief.

Before its face the land quakes, the skies shake; sun and moon grow dark, and the stars gather in their brightness.

And Yahweh puts forth his voice before his army, for his camp is very great, for mighty is the one who does his word; for the day of Yahweh is great and very awesome, and who can endure it?

And even now, the utterance of Yahweh, return to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with lament.

And tear your heart and not your garments, and return to Yahweh your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, and great in loyal love, and is sorry over the evil.

Who knows? He may turn back and be moved to pity, and leave a blessing behind him, a grain offering and a drink offering for Yahweh your God.

Blast a horn in Zion, set apart a fast, call an assembly.

Gather the people, set apart an assembly, collect the elders, gather the infants and the sucklers at the breasts; let the bridegroom go out from his room, and the bride from her canopy.

Between the porch and the altar let the priests weep, the servants of Yahweh, and let them say: Have pity, Yahweh, on your people, and do not make your inheritance a reproach, for nations to rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples, Where is their God?

And Yahweh was jealous for his land, and spared his people.

And Yahweh answered and said to his people: Look, I am sending you the grain and the new wine and the oil, and you will be satisfied with it; and I will no longer make you a reproach among the nations.

And the northerner I will remove far away from you, and I will banish him into a land of drought and wasteland, his face toward the eastern sea, and his end toward the hindmost sea; and his stench will go up, and his foul smell will go up, for he has made himself great in what he does.

Do not fear, O ground; rejoice and be glad, for Yahweh has made great what he does.

Do not fear, beasts of the field, for the pastures of the wilderness have sprouted; for the tree has lifted up its fruit, the fig tree and the vine have given their strength.

And you children of Zion, rejoice and be glad in Yahweh your God, for he has given you the early rain in righteousness, and has brought down for you the rain, the early rain and the spring rain, as at first.

And the threshing floors will be full of grain, and the presses will overflow with new wine and oil.

And I will repay you for the years that the locust ate, the locust, the young locust, the ravager, and the other kind of locust, my great army that I sent among you.

And you will eat and eat and be satisfied, and will praise the name of Yahweh your God, who has done wonders with you; and my people will never be ashamed forever.

And you will know that I am in the midst of Israel, and I am Yahweh your God, and there is none besides; and my people will never be ashamed forever.

And it will happen after that, I will pour out my spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.

And also on the slaves and on the female slaves, in those days I will pour out my spirit.

And I will set wonders in the skies and on the land: blood and fire and columns of smoke.

The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, before the face of the coming of the day of Yahweh, the great and dreadful.

And it will be that everyone who calls on the name of Yahweh will escape; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be an escaped remnant, as Yahweh has said, and among the survivors whom Yahweh is calling.
