Do you know the time the wild goats of the crag bear young? Do you keep watch over the does as they writhe in labor?
Do you count the months they fill, and do you know the time they bear young?
They crouch; they split open their young; they send out their pangs.
Their young grow strong, they increase in the open country; they go out and do not return to them.
Who set the wild donkey free, and who loosened the fetters of the wild ass?
whose home I set in the desert plain, and his dwellings in the salt land?
He laughs at the tumult of the town; he does not hear the shouts of the driver.
He explores the mountains as his pasture, and he seeks after every green plant.
Is the wild ox willing to serve you? Or will he spend the night at your feeding trough?
Can you bind the wild ox in the furrow with his cord? Or will he harrow the valleys behind you?
Will you trust in him, for his strength is great? Will you leave your toil to him?
Will you trust in him that he will bring back your seed and gather in your threshing floor?
The wing of the ostrich flaps joyously, yet is it the pinion and plumage of a stork?
For she leaves her eggs on the land, and keeps them warm on the dust,
and she forgets that a foot may crush them, and the beast of the field may trample them.
She deals hard with her young, as though they were not hers; her toil is in vain, without fear.
For God made her forget wisdom, and did not assign her a share in understanding.
At the time she flaps on the height, she laughs at the horse and at its rider.
Do you give the horse might? Do you clothe his neck with a quivering mane?
Do you make him leap like a locust? The majesty of his snorting is terror.
They dig in the valley, and he exults in his strength; he goes out to meet the weaponry.
He laughs at fear and is not dismayed; he does not turn back from the face of the sword.
Upon him the quiver rattles, the flashing blade of the spear and the javelin.
With shaking and agitation he swallows the land, and will not stand firm when the sound of the horn comes.
With each full blast of the horn he says, 'Aha!' and from afar he smells the battle, the thunder of the captains, and the battle-cry.
Is it from your understanding that the falcon flies and spreads his wings toward the south?
Or does the eagle soar at your command, and set his nest on high?
He dwells on the crag and spends the night on the tooth of the crag, a stronghold.
From there he searches out food; his eyes look from afar.
His chicks sip up blood; and where the slain are, there he is.
