And yet, hear please, O Job, my speech, and give ear to all my words.
Behold, I have opened wide my mouth; my tongue speaks in my palate.
My words are the uprightness of my heart, and my lips speak knowledge purely.
The breath of God made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
If you are able, give me back your words; arrange them before my face, and take your stand.
Behold, I am like you toward God; from clay I too was pinched off.
Behold, my dread will not terrify you, and my pressure on you will not be heavy.
Surely you said in my ears, and I heard the sound of your words:
Pure am I, without transgression; clean am I, and there is no guilt in me.
Behold, he finds grounds of opposition against me; he reckons me as an enemy to him.
He puts my feet in the stocks; he keeps watch on all my paths.
Behold, in this you are not in the right; I will answer you, for God is greater than a man.
Why have you contended against him, that he does not answer any of his words?
For God speaks once, and twice, though one does not regard it.
In a dream, a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people, in slumbers upon the bed,
then he uncovers the ear of people, and seals them in their discipline,
to turn aside a person from his deed, and to cover pride away from a man,
to keep back his being from the pit, and his life from passing away by the weapon.
He is reproved with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones is unceasing.
His life loathes bread, and his being the food of delight.
His flesh wastes away from view, and his bones that were not seen are laid bare.
His being draws near to the pit, and his life to those who bring death.
If there is over him a messenger, an interpreter, one out of a thousand, to tell a person his uprightness,
then he shows favor to him and says, Deliver him from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom.
His flesh grows fresher than in youth; he returns to the days of his youthful vigor.
He prays to God, who accepts him; he sees God's face with a shout of joy, and God gives back to a person his righteousness.
He watches over people and says, I have sinned, and what was upright I perverted, and it was not requited to me.
He has ransomed his being from passing on into the pit, and his life sees the light.
Behold, God does all these things, twice, three times, with a man,
to bring his being back from the pit, to be lit up by the light of life.
Pay attention, Job, and listen to me; keep silent, and I will speak.
If there are words, bring me back word; speak, for I delight to declare you righteous.
If not, you listen to me; keep silent, and I will teach you wisdom.
