After these things Jesus went away over the Sea of Galilee, of Tiberias.
And now a great crowd was following after him, because they were experiencing his signs which he was doing upon those being sick.
Now Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he was sitting with his disciples.
Now the Passover, the festival of the Jews, was near.
Then when Jesus had lifted up his eyes and had seen that a great crowd is coming to him, he says to Philip, From where may we buy bread, that these may eat?
Now this he was saying, testing him; for he himself knew what he was about to do.
Philip answered him, Two hundred denarii worth of loaves are not sufficient for them, that each of them may receive one little piece.
One of his disciples, Andrew the brother of Simon Peter, says to him,
There is one little boy here who has five barley loaves and two small fish; but these, what are they for so many?
Now Jesus said, Make the men recline. Now there was much grass in the place. Therefore the men reclined, the number about five thousand.
Then Jesus took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, now the disciples to those reclining, likewise also of the fish as much as they were wishing.
Now when they were filled, he says to his disciples, Gather together the fragments having been over and above, so that nothing may be lost.
Therefore they gathered together and filled twelve hand-baskets of fragments from the five barley loaves which exceeded to those who have eaten.
Therefore the people, when they had seen what sign Jesus had done, were saying that this is truly the prophet who is coming into the world.
Therefore Jesus, when he had known that they are about to come and to seize him, that they may make him king, withdrew again to the mountain himself alone.
Now when evening became, his disciples went down to the sea,
and when they had climbed into a boat, they were going over the sea to Capernaum. And already it had become dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them,
and the sea, a strong wind blowing, was agitated.
Therefore having rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they see Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were frightened.
And he says to them, I am he, fear not.
Then they were willing to receive him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.
On the next day the crowd which had been standing on the other side of the sea, having seen that there was no other boat there except one, that into which his disciples climbed, and that Jesus did not go with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples went away alone;
now other boats came from Tiberias, near the place where they ate the bread when the Lord was giving thanks.
When therefore the crowd saw that Jesus is not there nor are his disciples, they also themselves climbed into the boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus,
and when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when have you come here?
Jesus answered them and said, Amen I say to you, you seek me not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were satisfied.
Work not for the food that is perishing, but for the food which is enduring unto eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you; for him God the Father has sealed.
Therefore they said to him, What shall we do, that we may be doing the works of God?
Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that you may trust in him whom he has sent.
Therefore they said to him, What then do you yourself do as a sign, that we may see and may trust you? What work do you perform?
Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, even as it is written, Bread from the heaven he gave them to eat.
Therefore Jesus said to them, Amen I say to you, Moses has not given you the bread from the heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from the heaven.
For the bread of God is the One coming down out of the heaven and giving life to the world.
Therefore they said to him, Sir, always give to us this bread.
Now Jesus said to them, I myself am the bread of life; the one coming to me myself certainly will not hunger, and the one trusting in me myself certainly will not thirst at any time.
But I said to you that you have also seen me, and yet do not trust.
All that the Father gives me will come to me myself, and the one who comes to me myself I shall certainly not cast out,
for I have come down from the heaven not that I may do my will, but the will of the One who, having sent me.
Now this is the will of the One who, having sent me, the Father, that of all that he has given me I may lose none, but may raise it up in the last day.
For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who is beholding the Son and trusting in him may have eternal life, and I myself will raise him up in the last day.
Therefore the Jews were grumbling about him, because he said, I am the bread having come down from the heaven;
and they were saying, Is this not Jesus the son of Joseph, of whom we ourselves know the father and the mother? How then says he this, that From the heaven I have come down?
Therefore Jesus answered and said to them, Grumble not with one another.
No one is able to come to me, unless the Father, the one who sent me, shall draw him, and I myself will raise him up in the last day.
It is written in the prophets, And they will all be taught of God. Everyone therefore who, when he had heard from the Father and had learned, comes to me;
not that anyone has seen the Father, except the One being from God, he has seen the Father.
Amen I say to you, the one who trusts into me has eternal life.
I am the bread of life.
Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and died;
this is the bread coming down from the heaven, that anyone may eat of it and may not die.
I am the living bread having come down from the heaven; if anyone shall have eaten of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also that I myself will give is my flesh, which I myself will give for the life of the world.
Therefore the Jews were arguing with one another, saying, How is this man able to give us his flesh to eat?
Therefore Jesus said to them, Amen I say to you, unless you shall have eaten the flesh of the Son of Man and shall have drunk his blood, you have not life in yourselves.
The one eating of my flesh and drinking of my blood has eternal life, and I myself will raise him up in the last day.
For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
The one eating of my flesh and drinking of my blood abides in me, and I myself in him.
Even as the living Father sent me, and I myself live because of the Father, also the one feeding on me, he also will live because of me.
This is the bread having come down from the heaven, not even as your fathers ate the manna and died; the one eating this bread will live forever.
These things he said in the synagogue, teaching in Capernaum.
Therefore many of his disciples, having heard, said, This word is difficult; who is able to hear it?
However Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples are grumbling about this, said to them, Does this offend you?
Then what if you shall see the Son of Man ascending where he was before?
The Spirit is the one giving life, the flesh does not profit anything; the words that I myself have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.
But there are some of you who trust not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who are those not trusting, and who it is who will betray him.
And he was saying, Because of this have I said to you that no one is able to come to me unless it shall be granted to him from my Father.
From that time many out of his disciples went away to the back and no longer were walking with him.
Therefore Jesus said to the Twelve, Surely you yourselves also are not wishing to go away?
Therefore Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom will we go? You have words of eternal life,
and we ourselves have believed and have known that you yourself are the Holy One, the Anointed One of God who is living.
Jesus answered them, Did I myself not choose you the Twelve, and one of you is an accuser?
Now he was speaking of Judas son of Simon Iscariot; for he was about to betray him, being one of the Twelve.
