Jeremiah49

To the children of Ammon, thus says Yahweh: Does Israel have no children? Or does he have no heir? Why has Milcom taken possession of Gad, and have his people dwelled in its cities?

Therefore, behold, days are coming, the utterance of Yahweh, and I will make heard the shout of war against Rabbah of the children of Ammon; and it will become a mound of wasteland, and her daughters will be set on fire with fire, and Israel will take possession of those who dispossessed it, Yahweh said.

Wail, O Heshbon, for Ai is devastated; cry out, daughters of Rabbah, gird on sackcloth, mourn, and rove about among the sheepfolds; for Milcom will go into exile, his priests and his officials together.

Why do you boast in the valleys—your valley flows—O backturning daughter, who trusts in her treasuries: Who will come to me?

Behold, I am bringing fear upon you, the utterance of the Adonai Yahweh of hosts, from all around you; and you will be banished, each man straight before his face, and there is no one who gathers the fugitive.

And after this I will turn back the captivity of the children of Ammon, the utterance of Yahweh.

To Edom: Thus says Yahweh of hosts: Is there no more wisdom in Teman? Has counsel perished from those who discern? Has their wisdom been let loose?

Flee, turn back, go deep to dwell, dwellers of Dedan; for I have brought the disaster of Esau upon him, the time I visited him.

If grape-gatherers came to you, would they not leave gleanings? If thieves came by night, they would ruin only enough for themselves.

For I have bared Esau, I have uncovered his hiding places, and he will not be able to hide himself; his seed is devastated, and his brothers and his neighbors, and he is no more.

Leave your fatherless; I will keep them alive, and let your widows trust in me.

For thus Yahweh says: Behold, those whose justice was not to drink the cup will surely drink; and are you the one who will surely go unpunished? You will not go unpunished, for you will surely drink.

For I have sworn by myself, the utterance of Yahweh, that Bozrah will become a waste, a reproach, a drought, and a curse; and all her cities will become ruins forever.

I have heard a report from Yahweh, and an envoy has been sent among the nations: Gather together and come against her, and rise up for war!

For behold, I have made you small among the nations, despised among humankind.

Your horror has deceived you, the arrogance of your heart, you who dwell in the clefts of the crag, who seize the height of the hill; though you raise your nest like the eagle, from there I will bring you down, the utterance of Yahweh.

And Edom will become a waste; everyone who passes by her will be appalled and will hiss at all her blows.

Like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and its neighbors, Yahweh has said, no one will dwell there, and no son of humankind will sojourn in her.

Behold, like a lion he comes up from the majesty of the Jordan to the ever-flowing pasture; for suddenly I will make him run away from it, and whoever is chosen, I will appoint over it. For who is like me? And who will summon me? And who is this shepherd who will stand before my face?

Therefore hear the counsel of Yahweh that he has counseled against Edom, and his thoughts that he has reckoned against the dwellers of Teman: Surely the little ones of the flock will drag them away; surely he will devastate their pasture because of them.

At the sound of their fall the land shook; the cry—its sound was heard at the Sea of Reeds.

Behold, like the eagle he will come up and swoop and spread out his wings over Bozrah; and on that day the heart of the warriors of Edom will be like the heart of a woman in straits.

To Damascus: Hamath and Arpad are ashamed, for they have heard an evil report; they have melted away; there is anxiety in the sea, it cannot be quiet.

Damascus has grown slack; she turned to flee, and trembling has seized her; distress and pangs have taken hold of her, like a woman giving birth.

How is the city of praise not forsaken, the town of my joy!

Therefore her young men will fall in her broad places, and all the men of war will be silenced in that day, the utterance of Yahweh of hosts.

And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it will devour the palaces of Ben-Hadad.

Concerning Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon struck, this is what Yahweh said: Rise, go up against Kedar, and devastate the children of the east.

Their tents and their flocks they will take; their curtains and all their utensils and their camels they will carry off for themselves; and they will call out over them, Terror from every side!

Escape, flee; make your dwelling exceedingly deep, you dwellers of Hazor, the utterance of Yahweh; for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has counselled a plan against you and has reckoned a purpose against you.

Rise, go up against a nation at ease, dwelling in security, the utterance of Yahweh; it has no doors and no bar; they abide alone.

And their camels will become plunder, and the hordes of their livestock spoil; and I will scatter them to every wind, those cut off at the corner, and from all its sides I will bring their disaster, the utterance of Yahweh.

And Hazor will become a dwelling place of jackals, a wasteland forever; no man will dwell there, and no son of man will sojourn in it.

The word of Yahweh that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying:

This is what Yahweh of hosts said: Behold, I am about to break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might.

And I will bring against Elam the four winds from the four ends of the skies, and I will scatter them to all these winds, and there will be no nation to which the banished of Elam will not come.

And I will shatter Elam before their enemies and before those who seek their living being, and I will bring upon them misery, my burning anger, the utterance of Yahweh; and I will send the sword after them until I have made an end of them.

And I will set my throne in Elam, and I will destroy from there king and officials, the utterance of Yahweh.

And it will be in the latter end of the days that I will turn back the captivity of Elam, the utterance of Yahweh.
