Concerning Moab: Thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel: Woe to Nebo, for it is devastated! Kiriathaim is put to shame, captured; the stronghold is put to shame and dismayed.
There is no more praise of Moab; in Heshbon they have devised evil against her: Come, and let us cut her off from being a nation. Also Madmen, you will be silent; after you the sword will go.
The sound of a cry from Horonaim: devastation and great breaking!
Moab is broken; her little ones have made an outcry heard.
For on the ascent of Luhith, with weeping one goes up weeping; for on the descent of Horonaim, the foes have heard a cry of breaking.
Flee, deliver your living being, and be like a juniper bush in the wilderness.
For because you trusted in your works and in your treasures, also you will be captured; and Chemosh will go out into exile, his priests and his officials together.
And a destroyer will come to every city, and no city will escape; the valley will perish and the plateau will be wiped out, as Yahweh has spoken.
Give a flower to Moab, for she will surely fly away, and her cities will become a desolation, with no one dwelling in them.
Cursed is the one who does the work of Yahweh deceitfully, and cursed is the one who withholds his sword from blood.
Moab has been at ease since his youth, undisturbed on his dregs; he has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, and into exile he has not gone. Therefore his taste has remained in him, and his scent has not changed.
Therefore, look, days are coming, the utterance of Yahweh, when I will send to it those who tip, and they will tip it over, and empty its vessels, and shatter their jars.
And Moab will be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Beth-el, their security.
How will you say, We are mighty men, and men of valor for the war?
Moab is devastated, and he has gone up into her cities; the choicest of his young men have gone down to the slaughter, the utterance of the King, Yahweh of hosts is his name.
The disaster of Moab is near to come, and his calamity hastens exceedingly.
Shake your heads in grief for him, all you around him, and all who know his name; say, How the rod of strength is broken, the staff of splendor!
Come down from weightiness and dwell in thirst, you who dwell, daughter of Dibon; for the devastator of Moab has come up against you, he has ruined your strongholds.
Stand by the road and watch, you who dwell in Aroer; ask the man who flees and the woman who escapes; say, What has happened?
Moab is put to shame, for it is shattered; wail and cry out; tell it at the Arnon that Moab is devastated.
And justice has come to the land of the plateau, to Holon and to Jahaz and upon Mephaath,
and upon Dibon and upon Nebo and upon Beth-diblathaim,
and upon Kiriathaim and upon Beth-gamul and upon Beth-meon,
and upon Kerioth and upon Bozrah and upon all the cities of the land of Moab, the far and the near.
The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, the utterance of Yahweh.
Make him drunk, for he has made himself great against Yahweh; Moab will splash in his vomit, and he too will become an object of laughter.
Was Israel not an object of laughter to you? Or was he found among thieves, that as often as your words are about him you shake your head?
Leave the cities and dwell in the crag, you who dwell in Moab; be like a dove that nests in the sides of the mouth of a pit.
We have heard of the pride of Moab, very proud: his height and his exaltation and his haughtiness and the loftiness of his heart.
I know his arrogance, the utterance of Yahweh, and it is not right; his empty talk, they have not done right.
Therefore over Moab I will wail, and for all of Moab I will cry out; for the men of Kir-heres one will moan.
More than the weeping of Jazer I will weep for you, O vine of Sibmah; your tendrils passed over the sea, they reached as far as the sea of Jazer; upon your summer fruit and upon your vintage the devastator has fallen.
Gladness and rejoicing have been gathered away from the garden-land and from the land of Moab; and wine from the presses I have caused to cease. No one treads with a shout; the shout is no shout.
From the outcry of Heshbon as far as Elealeh, as far as Jahaz they have raised their voice, from Zoar as far as Horonaim, Eglath-shelishiyah; for even the waters of Nimrim will become wastes.
And I will cause to cease from Moab, the utterance of Yahweh, the one who offers up at a high place and the one who makes smoke for his gods.
Therefore my heart moans for Moab like flutes, and my heart moans like flutes for the men of Kir-heres; therefore the wealth it acquired has perished.
For every head is bald, and every beard is clipped; on all hands are gashes, and upon the loins is sackcloth.
On all the roofs of Moab and in its broad places, all of it is wailing; for I have broken Moab like a vessel in which there is no delight, the utterance of Yahweh.
How she is shattered! They wail! How Moab has turned the back of the neck in shame! And Moab will become an object of laughter and of terror to all around him.
For thus says Yahweh: Look, like an eagle he swoops and spreads out his wings against Moab.
Kerioth is captured, and the strongholds are seized; and the heart of the mighty men of Moab will be on that day like the heart of a woman in straits.
And Moab will be wiped out from being a people, for he made himself great against Yahweh.
Fear and pit and bird-trap are upon you, O dweller of Moab, the utterance of Yahweh.
The one who flees from the face of the fear will fall into the pit, and the one who comes up out of the pit will be caught in the bird-trap; for I will bring to it, to Moab, the year of their punishment, the utterance of Yahweh.
In the shadow of Heshbon the fugitives stood without strength; for fire went out from Heshbon and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and it ate the corner of Moab and the crown of the children of tumult.
Woe to you, Moab! The people of Chemosh has perished; for your sons have been taken into captivity, and your daughters into captivity.
But I will turn back the captivity of Moab in the latter end of the days, the utterance of Yahweh. Thus far is the justice of Moab.
