Jeremiah32

The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar.

And then the army of the king of Babylon was laying siege to Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard that was in the house of the king of Judah.

because Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying: Why are you prophesying, saying: Like this Yahweh says: Look, I am about to set this city in the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will capture it,

And Zedekiah king of Judah will not escape from the hand of the Chaldeans, for he will surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon. His mouth will speak with his mouth, and his eyes will see his eyes.

And he will lead Zedekiah to Babylon, and there he will be until I attend to him, the utterance of Yahweh. If you fight against the Chaldeans, you will not succeed.

And Jeremiah said: The word of Yahweh came to me, saying:

Behold, Hanamel son of Shallum your uncle is coming to you, saying, 'Acquire for yourself my field that is in Anathoth, for yours is the right of redemption, to acquire it.'

And Hanamel son of my uncle came to me, according to the word of Yahweh, to the court of the guard, and said to me, 'Acquire, please, my field that is in Anathoth, in the land of Benjamin, for yours is the right of possession and yours the redemption; acquire it for yourself.' And I knew that it was the word of Yahweh.

And I acquired the field from Hanamel son of my uncle, which was in Anathoth, and I weighed out to him the silver: seventeen shekels of silver.

And I wrote in the record, and I sealed it, and I had witnesses testify, and I weighed out the silver on the scales.

And I took the record of the buying, the sealed one, the command and the prescribed terms, and the one that was uncovered.

And I gave the record of the buying to Baruch son of Neriah son of Mahseiah, before the eyes of Hanamel my uncle, and before the eyes of the witnesses who wrote in the record of the buying, before the eyes of all the Judeans who dwell in the court of the guard.

And I commanded Baruch before their eyes, saying:

Thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel: Take these records, this record of the buying, the sealed one and this record of the uncovered one, and put them in an earthenware vessel, so that they remain for many days.

For thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel: Again houses and fields and vineyards will be bought in this land.

And I prayed to Yahweh, after I had given the record of the buying to Baruch son of Neriah, saying:

Ah, Adonai Yahweh! Look, you made the skies and the land by your great strength and by your stretched-out arm; no word is too hard for you.

who acts in loyal love toward thousands and repays the guilt of the fathers into the bosom of their sons after them, the great God, the mighty one, Yahweh of hosts is his name,

great in counsel and great in deeds, whose eyes are open over all the ways of the children of humankind, to give to each man according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds;

who set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, until this day, both in Israel and among humankind, and made yourself a name, as at this day.

And you brought out your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs and with wonders, with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and with great terror.

And you gave them this land that you had sworn to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey.

And they came in and took possession of it, but they did not listen to your voice and did not walk in your instruction; all that you commanded them to do, they did not do. So you made all this evil befall them.

Behold, the siege mounds have come to the city to capture it, and the city has been given into the hand of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it, in the face of the sword and the famine and the pestilence. What you spoke has happened, and behold, you are seeing it.

And you said to me, Adonai Yahweh: 'Acquire the field for yourself with silver, and have witnesses testify'—though the city has been given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

And the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, saying:

Behold, I am Yahweh, the God of all flesh. Is any word too hard for me?

Therefore thus says Yahweh: Behold, I am giving this city into the hand of the Chaldeans and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will capture it.

And the Chaldeans who are fighting against this city will come and set this city on fire and burn it, together with the houses on whose roofs they made sacrifices smoke to Baal and poured out drink offerings to other gods, so as to provoke me to anger.

For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have been only doing the evil in my eyes from their youth; for the children of Israel have been only provoking me to anger by the work of their hands, the utterance of Yahweh.

For this city has been to me the cause of my anger and my rage, from the day when they built it until this day, so that I remove it from before my face,

because of all the evil of the children of Israel and the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke me to anger—they, their kings, their officials, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah and those who dwell in Jerusalem.

And they turned the back of the neck to me, and not the face; though I taught them, starting early and teaching, they were not listening, to take discipline.

And they set their detestable idols in the house that is called by my name, to make it unclean.

And they built the high places of the Baal that are in the valley of Ben Hinnom, to make their sons and their daughters pass over to Molech, which I had not commanded them, and it did not come up on my heart, to do this abomination, so as to make Judah sin.

And now, therefore, like this Yahweh has said, the God of Israel, concerning this city, which you are saying, "It has been given into the hand of the king of Babylon, by the sword and by famine and by pestilence":

Behold, I am gathering them from all the lands where I banished them, in my anger and in my burning rage and in great wrath; and I will bring them back to this place, and I will make them dwell in security.

And they will be my people, and I will be their God.

And I will give them one heart and one way, to fear me all the days, for their good, and for their sons after them.

And I will cut a covenant with them forever, that I will not turn back from after them, to do them good; and I will put my fear in their heart, so that they will not turn aside from me.

And I will rejoice over them, to do them good, and I will plant them in this land in stability, with all my heart and with all my being.

For like this Yahweh has said: Just as I brought on this people all this great disaster, so I am bringing on them all the good that I am speaking over them.

And the field will be bought in this land, of which you are saying, "It is a wasteland, without human being or livestock; it has been given into the hand of the Chaldeans."

People will buy fields for silver, and write in the document, and seal it, and take witnesses, in the land of Benjamin, and round about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the hill country, and in the cities of the Shephelah, and in the cities of the Negev; for I will restore their prosperity, the utterance of Yahweh.
