¹And it was in that year, at the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, that Hananiah son of Azzur, the prophet who was from Gibeon, said to me in the house of Yahweh, before the eyes of the priests and all the people, saying:

²Like this Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, said, saying: I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.

³In yet two years' time I will bring back to this place all the articles of the house of Yahweh, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took from this place and brought to Babylon.

⁴And Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, and all the exiles of Judah who went to Babylon, I will bring back to this place, the utterance of Yahweh; for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.

⁵And Jeremiah the prophet said to Hananiah the prophet before the eyes of the priests and before the eyes of all the people who were standing in the house of Yahweh.

⁶And Jeremiah the prophet said: Amen! So may Yahweh do; may Yahweh make your words stand, which you have prophesied, by bringing back the articles of the house of Yahweh and all the exiles from Babylon to this place.

⁷Only listen, please, to this word that I am about to speak in your ears and in the ears of all the people.

⁸The prophets who were before me and before you, from forever, prophesied against many lands and against great kingdoms, of war and of misery and of pestilence.

⁹The prophet who prophesies of wholeness — when the word of the prophet comes, the prophet whom Yahweh truly sent will be known.

¹⁰And Hananiah the prophet took the yoke-bar from upon the neck of Jeremiah the prophet, and broke it.

¹¹And Hananiah said before the eyes of all the people, saying: Like this Yahweh said: In this way I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon within yet two years' time, from upon the neck of all the nations. And Jeremiah the prophet went his way.

¹²And the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, after Hananiah the prophet had broken the yoke-bar from upon the neck of Jeremiah the prophet, saying:

¹³Go and say to Hananiah, saying: Like this Yahweh says: You broke the yoke-bars of wood, and in their place you will make yoke-bars of iron.

¹⁴For like this Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, says: A yoke of iron I have set on the neck of all these nations, to serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and they will serve him; and also the beasts of the field I have given to him.

¹⁵And Jeremiah the prophet said to Hananiah the prophet: Listen, please, Hananiah: Yahweh has not sent you, and you have made this people trust in falsehood.

¹⁶Therefore like this Yahweh says: Look, I am sending you away from off the face of the ground; this year you will die, for you have spoken rebellion against Yahweh.

¹⁷And Hananiah the prophet died in that year, in the seventh month.
