The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah—it was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon—
which Jeremiah the prophet spoke concerning all the people of Judah and to all who dwell in Jerusalem, saying:
From the thirteenth year of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah even to this day, these twenty-three years, the word of Yahweh has come to me, and I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking, and you have not listened.
And Yahweh sent to you all his servants the prophets, starting early in the morning and sending, but you did not listen, and you did not incline your ear to hear.
saying: Turn back, please, each man from his evil way and from the badness of your deeds, and dwell on the ground that Yahweh gave to you and to your fathers from forever to forever.
And do not go after other gods to serve them and bow down to them, and do not provoke me to anger by the work of your hands, and I will not harm you.
But you did not listen to me, the utterance of Yahweh, so as to provoke me to anger by the work of your hands, to your own hurt.
Therefore, this is what Yahweh of hosts said: Because you did not listen to my words,
Look, I am sending, and I will take all the clans of the north, the utterance of Yahweh, and Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, my servant, and I will bring them against this land and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations round about, and I will devote them to destruction, and I will set them as a desolation, something to hiss at, and ruins forever.
And I will cause to perish from them the sound of joy and the sound of gladness, the sound of the bridegroom and the sound of the bride, the sound of the hand-mill and the light of the lamp.
And all this land will become a ruin, a desolation, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
And it will be, when seventy years are completed, I will visit their guilt upon the king of Babylon and upon that nation, the utterance of Yahweh, and upon the land of the Chaldeans, and I will make it a wasteland forever.
And I will bring upon that land all my words that I spoke against it, everything written in this scroll, which Jeremiah prophesied against all the nations.
For many nations and great kings have put them to work, them too, and I will repay them according to their deeds and according to the work of their hands.
For this is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, said to me: Take from my hand the cup of this wine of anger, and make all the nations to whom I am sending you drink it.
And they will drink, and reel back and forth, and act madly from the face of the sword that I am sending among them.
And I took the cup from the hand of Yahweh, and I made all the nations to whom Yahweh had sent me drink:
Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, and its kings and its officials, to make them a ruin, a desolation, something to hiss at, and a curse, as this day;
Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his officials, and all his people;
and all the mixed company, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Gaza, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod;
Edom and Moab and the sons of Ammon;
and all the kings of Tyre, and all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the coastland that lies across the sea;
and Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all those clipped at the corner of the hair;
and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mixed company who dwell in the wilderness;
and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of Media;
and all the kings of the north, the near and the far, each to his brother, and all the kingdoms of the land that are on the face of the ground; and the king of Sheshach will drink after them.
And you shall say to them: This is what Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, said: Drink, and get drunk, and vomit, and fall, and you will not rise, from the face of the sword that I am sending among you.
And it will be, if they refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink, then you shall say to them: This is what Yahweh of hosts said: You will certainly drink.
For look, in the city on which my name is called I am beginning to do injury, and will you indeed go unpunished? You will not go unpunished, for I am calling a sword upon all who dwell in the land, the utterance of Yahweh of hosts.
And you, prophesy to them all these words, and say to them: Yahweh will roar from the height, and from his holy dwelling he will give his voice; he will roar mightily over his pasture; he will cry out a shout, like those who tread the winepress, against all who dwell in the land.
A tumult has come to the end of the land, for Yahweh has a dispute with the nations; he is entering into judgment with all flesh; as for the wicked, he has given them to the sword, the utterance of Yahweh.
This is what Yahweh of hosts said: Look, evil is going out from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind will be roused from the flanks of the land.
And the slain of Yahweh will be on that day from the end of the land to the end of the land; they will not be mourned, and they will not be gathered, and they will not be buried; they will become dung on the face of the ground.
Wail, you shepherds, and cry out; roll in the dust, you mighty ones of the flock; for your days are filled for the slaughter, and your scatterings; and you will fall like a precious vessel.
And refuge will perish from those who shepherd, and deliverance from the mighty ones of the flock.
The sound of the cry of those who shepherd, and the wailing of the mighty ones of the flock, for Yahweh is devastating their pasture.
And the pastures of wholeness will be made silent from the face of the burning anger of Yahweh.
He has forsaken his lair like a young lion, for their land has become a waste from the face of the oppressing anger, and from the face of his burning anger.
