The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, with a point of flint, engraved on the tablet of their heart and on the horns of your altars.
As their sons remember their altars and their Asherah poles beside the leafy tree, on the high hills.
My mountain in the field — your wealth, all your treasures — I will give as plunder, your high places, for sin throughout all your borders.
And you will let go, you yourself, of your inheritance which I gave you; and I will make you serve your enemies in a land which you did not know, for you have kindled a fire in my anger; it will burn forever.
This is what Yahweh says: Cursed is the man who trusts in humankind, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart turns aside from Yahweh.
He will be like a shrub in the desert plain, and will not see when good comes; he will dwell in parched places in the wilderness, a land of salt where no one dwells.
Blessed is the man who trusts in Yahweh, and Yahweh is his security.
He will be like a tree planted beside the waters, and by the stream it sends out its roots; it will not see when heat comes, and its foliage will be luxuriant; in the year of drought it will not be anxious, and it will not depart from yielding fruit.
The heart is more deceitful than everything, and it is incurable — who can know it?
I, Yahweh, search the heart and test the kidneys, to give to each man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.
A partridge gathers a brood it did not bear; so is one who makes wealth, but not with justice; in the middle of his days it will leave him, and in his end he will be a fool.
A throne of weightiness, a height from the first, the place of our sanctuary.
O hope of Israel, Yahweh: all who forsake you will be ashamed; those who turn aside from me will be written in the land, for they have forsaken Yahweh, the spring of living waters.
Heal me, Yahweh, and I will be healed; save me, and I will be saved, for you are my praise.
Look, they are saying to me: Where is the word of Yahweh? Let it come now!
But I did not hurry away from shepherding after you, and I did not desire the incurable day. You know what came out of my lips; it was in front of your face.
Do not become a terror to me; you are my refuge in the day of evil.
Let my pursuers be put to shame, but let me not be put to shame; let them be dismayed, but let me not be dismayed; bring upon them the evil day, and break them with double destruction.
This is what Yahweh said to me: Go and stand in the gate of the children of the people, through which the kings of Judah come in and through which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem.
Say to them: Hear the word of Yahweh, kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all who dwell in Jerusalem, who come in by these gates.
This is what Yahweh says: Take heed for your living selves — and do not carry a burden on the day of the sabbath, or bring it in through the gates of Jerusalem.
And do not bring out a burden from your houses on the day of the sabbath, and do not do any work; and set apart as holy the day of the sabbath, just as I commanded your fathers.
And they did not listen, and did not incline their ear; they stiffened their neck so as not to listen and not to take discipline.
It will be, if you truly listen to me, the utterance of Yahweh, by not bringing a burden through the gates of this city on the day of the sabbath, and by setting apart as holy the day of the sabbath, by not doing any work on it —
Then kings and officials will come in through the gates of this city, sitting on the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses—they and their officials, the men of Judah and those dwelling in Jerusalem—and this city will remain forever.
And they will come from the cities of Judah, and from around Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the lowland, and from the hill country, and from the Negev, bringing a burnt offering and a sacrifice and a grain offering and frankincense, and bringing a thank offering to the house of Yahweh.
And if you do not listen to me, to set apart the day of the sabbath, so as not to carry a burden or come in through the gates of Jerusalem on the day of the sabbath, then I will kindle a fire in its gates, and it will eat the citadels of Jerusalem, and it will not go out.
