Judges5

On that day Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam sang, saying:

When locks hang long in Israel, when the people impel themselves, bless Yahweh!

Hear, O kings; give ear, O rulers! I, to Yahweh, I will sing; I will make music to Yahweh, the God of Israel.

Yahweh, when you went forth from Seir, when you climbed from the field of Edom, the land shook, also the skies dripped, also the clouds dripped waters.

The mountains streamed from the face of Yahweh, this Sinai from the face of Yahweh, the God of Israel.

In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the ways ceased, and those who went the paths went by crooked ways.

The villages ceased in Israel, they ceased, until I rose, Deborah, until I rose a mother in Israel.

They chose new gods, then war was in the gates; was shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel?

My heart is to the commanders of Israel, those who impel themselves among the people. Bless Yahweh!

You who rode on white female donkeys, you who dwelled over garments, and you who went over the way, tell of it!

From the sound of the archers between the places of drawing, there they will lament the righteousness of Yahweh, the righteousness of his villages in Israel. Then the people of Yahweh came down to the gates.

Awake, awake, Deborah! Awake, awake, speak a song! Rise, Barak, and take captive your prisoners, O son of Abinoam.

Then the survivor came down to the mighty; the people of Yahweh came down to me among the mighty men.

From Ephraim, their root in Amalek; after you, Benjamin, among your people; from Machir the commanders came down, and from Zebulun those who march with the rod of the scribe.

And my officials in Issachar were with Deborah, and Issachar, so Barak; into the vale he was sent at his feet. In the divisions of Reuben great were the resolves of the heart.

Why did you dwell between the saddlebags, to hear the piping for the arrangements? In the divisions of Reuben great was the examination of heart.

Gilead made to dwell on the side of the Jordan, and Dan, why will he live in ships? Asher dwelled at the seacoast of the seas, and over his harbors he will make to dwell.

Zebulun is a people that reproached its living being to die, and Naphtali, over the heights of the field.

The kings came, then they fought; the kings of Canaan fought at Taanach, over the waters of Megiddo; they took no profit of silver.

From the skies the stars fought; from their highways they fought with Sisera.

The wadi of Kishon swept them away, the wadi of the ages, the wadi of Kishon. You will rise up, O my living being, in strength!

Then the heels of the horses cut from the gallops, the gallops of his mighty ones.

Curse Meroz, said the messenger of Yahweh; curse, surely curse, her inhabitants, for they did not came to the help of Yahweh, to the help of Yahweh among the mighty men.

Jael will be blessed above women, the wife of Heber the Kenite; above women in the tent will she be blessed.

He inquired waters, she set milk in the bowl of the mighty; she brought near the curds.

Her hand she will stretch out to the stake, and her right to the hammer of the workers; she cut Sisera, she crushed his head, she shattered and changed his temple.

Between her feet he crouched, he fell, he lay down; between her feet he crouched, he fell; in which he crouched, there he fell devastated.

Through the window the mother of Sisera looked down and cried shrilly, through the lattice: Why is his chariot delayed in coming? Why do the foot-beats of his chariots tarry?

The wise of her ladies will answer her; also she will return her word to herself:

Are they not finding, dividing up the plunder? A womb, two wombs, for the head of each man; plunder of dyed cloth for Sisera, plunder of dyed cloth, embroidery, a dyed cloth, double embroidery, for the necks of the plunder.

So will all your enemies perish, O Yahweh; and those who love it, as the sun goes forth in his victory. And the land rested forty years.
