And these are the nations which Yahweh settled, to test by them Israel, all who had not known all the war of Canaan;
only that the generation of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, only those who before had not known it.
The five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites who lived in Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal-hermon as far as the entrance of Hamath.
They were there to test by them Israel, that Yahweh might know whether they would hear the commandments of Yahweh, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.
And the children of Israel dwelled in the midst of the Canaanite, the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.
They took their daughters to them for women, and their daughters they gave to their sons, and they served their gods.
And the children of Israel made the evil in the eyes of Yahweh, and forgot Yahweh their God, and served the baals and the Asherah poles.
And the anger of Yahweh burned in Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan-rishathajim the king of Aram; and the children of Israel served Cushan-rishathajim eight years.
And the children of Israel cried to Yahweh, and Yahweh raised a deliverer to the children of Israel, and saved them: Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, the young than him.
And the breath of Yahweh was over him, and he judged Israel, and went forth to the war; and Yahweh set in his hand Cushan-rishathajim the king of Aram, and his hand prevailed over Cushan-rishathajim.
And the land rested forty years, and Othniel the son of Kenaz died.
And the children of Israel repeated to make the evil in the eye of Yahweh; and Yahweh strengthened Eglon the king of Moab over Israel, because they made the evil in the eye of Yahweh.
And he gathered to him the children of Ammon and Amalek, and he went and struck Israel, and they occupied the city of the cities.
And the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.
And the children of Israel cried to Yahweh, and Yahweh raised to them a deliverer, Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a man left-handed in the hand of his right; and the children of Israel stretched out by his hand a grain offering to Eglon the king of Moab.
And Ehud made to him a sword, and to it the two doubles a cubit her length, and he girded it under his garment over the thigh of his right.
And he brought near the grain offering to Eglon the king of Moab; and Eglon was a man fatted exceedingly.
And it happened, as when he completed to bring near the grain offering, that he sent the people who lifted up the grain offering.
And he returned from the idols which are in the Gilgal, and said, A word of the secret to me to you, the king. And he said, Quiet! And all went forth from over him, those who stand over him.
And Ehud came to him, and he dwelled in the upper of the cooling off, which was to him to his alone; and Ehud said, A word of God to me to you. And he rose from on the throne.
And Ehud stretched out the hand of his left, and took the sword from over the thigh of his right, and blew it in his womb.
And the hilt also went after the blade, and the fat closed up behind the blade, for he did not draw the sword from his womb; and it went forth the through.
And Ehud went forth to the porch, and closed up the doors of the upper behind him, and locked.
And he went forth, and his slaves came; and they saw, the doors of the upper are locked; and they said, Only he is overshadowing his feet in the inner chamber of the cooling off.
And they waited anxiously until ashamed; there is none opening wide the doors of the upper; and they took the key and opened wide, their lord fallen to land, dead.
And Ehud escaped while they linger, and he passed over the idols, and escaped to the Seirah.
And it happened, in his bringing it, that he blew in the rams in the mountain of Ephraim; and the children of Israel came down with him from the mountain, and he before their face.
And he said to them, Run after me, for Yahweh has set your enemies, Moab, in your hand. And they came down after him, and captured the fords of the Jordan to Moab, and did not set a man to pass.
And they struck Moab in that time, as ten thousand men, all rich and all men of the strength; and not a man escaped.
And Moab was humbled in that day under the hand of Israel; and the land rested eighty years.
And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, and he struck of the Philistines six hundred men with a goad of the cattle; and he also saved Israel.
