Then all the children of Israel went forth, and the congregation assembled as one man, from Dan to Beer-sheba and the land of Gilead, to Yahweh at Mizpah.
And all the people, all the corners of the tribes of Israel, stood in the company of the people of God, four hundred thousand foot-men who drew the sword.
And Benjamin heard that the children of Israel had come up to Mizpah. And the children of Israel said, Speak: how was this evil?
And the Levite, the man of the woman that was murdered, answered and said, I came to Gibeah which is in Benjamin, I and my concubine, to lodge.
And the lord of the Gibeah rose over me, and went round the house over me by night; they planned to kill me, and my concubine they afflicted, and she died.
And I caught my concubine and cut her, and I sent her in all the field of the inheritance of Israel, for they made depravity and outrage in Israel.
you are all the children of Israel; give your word and counsel here.
And all the people rose as one man, saying, We will not go, any man to his tent, and we will not remove, any man to his house.
And now this is the word which we will make to Gibeah: over it by lot.
We will take ten men out of every hundred from all the tribes of Israel, a hundred out of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to take provisions for the people, so as to act, when they come to Geba of Benjamin, according to all the outrage that it committed in Israel.
So all the men of Israel gathered to the city as one man, as one.
And the tribes of Israel sent men in all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, What is this evil which was in you?
And now set out the men, the children of the wicked which are in Gibeah, and we will put them to death and purge the evil from Israel. But Benjamin was not willing to hear the voice of their brothers, the children of Israel.
And the children of Benjamin gathered from the cities to Gibeah, to go forth to the war with the children of Israel.
And the children of Benjamin were visited in that day from the cities, twenty and six thousand men who drew the sword, alone from those who dwelled in Gibeah, who were visited, seven hundred chosen men.
From all this people were seven hundred chosen men left-handed; every one of his right hand could sling a stone at a hair and would not miss.
And the men of Israel were visited, alone from Benjamin, four hundred thousand men who drew the sword; all these were men of war.
And they rose and came up to Beth-el, and inquired of God, and the children of Israel said, Who shall come up for us to beginning the war with the children of Benjamin? And Yahweh said, Judah at the beginning.
And the children of Israel rose in the morning and encamped against Gibeah.
And the men of Israel went forth to the war with Benjamin, and the men of Israel arranged war against them at Gibeah.
And the children of Benjamin went forth from Gibeah, and corrupted to the land in Israel in that day two and twenty thousand men.
And the people, the men of Israel, showed themselves strong, and repeated to arrange war in the place where they arranged in the first day.
And the children of Israel came up and wept to the face of Yahweh until the evening, and inquired of Yahweh, saying, Shall I repeat to be at the war with the children of Benjamin my brother? And Yahweh said, Come up to him.
And the children of Israel neared to the children of Benjamin in the second day.
And Benjamin went forth to encounter them from Gibeah in the second day, and corrupted again to the land in the children of Israel eighteen thousand men, all these drew the sword.
Then all the children of Israel and all the people came up and came to Beth-el, and wept and dwelled there to the face of Yahweh, and fasted in that day until the evening, and brought up burnt offerings and peace offerings to the face of Yahweh.
And the children of Israel inquired of Yahweh, and the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days.
And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood to his face in those days, saying, Shall I repeat again to go forth to the war with the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease? And Yahweh said, Come up, for time to come I will set it in your hand.
And Israel put those who lay wait against Gibeah round about.
And the children of Israel came up to the children of Benjamin in the third day, and arranged against Gibeah as the time in the time.
And the children of Benjamin went forth to encounter the people; they were torn from the city, and pierced to strike of the people slain as the time in the time, in the highways which one comes up to Beth-el and one to Gibeah, in the field, as thirty men in Israel.
And the children of Benjamin said, They are struck to our face as at the first. But the children of Israel said, We will flee and tear them from the city to the highways.
And all the men of Israel rose from his place and arranged at Baal-tamar; and those who lay wait of Israel burst forth from his place, from the open of Geba.
And ten thousand chosen men of all Israel came from before to Gibeah, and the war it was heavy; and they did not know that the disaster touched over them.
And Yahweh struck Benjamin to the face of Israel, and the children of Israel corrupted in Benjamin in that day twenty and five thousand and a hundred men; all these drew the sword.
And the children of Benjamin saw that they were struck. And the men of Israel set place to Benjamin, for they trusted to those who lay wait which they put against Gibeah.
And those who lay wait hastened and stripped off against Gibeah; and those who lay wait drew, and struck all the city with the edge of the sword.
And the appointed time was to the men of Israel with those who lay wait, to multiply to bring up to them the gift of smoke from the city.
And the men of Israel turned in the war, and Benjamin pierced to strike slain in the men of Israel as thirty men, for they said, only he is struck to our face as the first war.
And the gift began to come up from the city, a pillar of smoke; and Benjamin turned his after, and the entirely of the city came up to the skies.
And the men of Israel turned, and the men of Benjamin were terrified, for he saw that the disaster touched over him.
And they turned to the face of the men of Israel to the way of the wilderness, but the war cleaved it, and those which from the cities corrupted it in his middle.
They encircled Benjamin, ran after it, and from the rest rose over it in before Gibeah, from the east side of the sun.
And eighteen thousand men fell from Benjamin; all these were the men of strength.
And they turned and fled to the wilderness, to the crag of Rimmon; and they made of it in the highways five thousand men, and cleaved his after to Gidom, and struck of him a thousand men.
And all those who fell from Benjamin was twenty and five thousand men who drew the sword in that day; all these were the men of strength.
And they turned and fled to the wilderness, to the crag of Rimmon, six hundred men, and dwelled in the crag of Rimmon four months.
And the men of Israel returned to the children of Benjamin and struck them with the edge of the sword, from the city of every, in livestock, in all that finds; also all the cities those which find they sent in the fire.
